Many tracks, artists, genres, events and trends have shaped the scene into how we know it today. But, we will keep all these other important factors for other articles. Here, we focus on the essence of it all – the music – by answering the question: What are the tracks that marked 2019, and the end of the 2010s?

Our team at EDMTunes has compiled what we consider to be the top 100 tracks of the year. It is worth noting that more than 10,000 tracks are released every week on Beatport, in addition to many others dropped on Soundcloud, Bandcamp, and as vinyl-only. This makes the task of putting together an objective, and all-satisfying ranking quite impossible. There are so many other tracks outside of this list that we love and groove to.

In this compilation, we took into consideration the quality of the production of course, but we also include the most symbolic and iconic tracks that represent the year 2019.

Without further ado, with the artists in alphabetical order, we present our selection of the best tracks of 2019 along with links to their respective coverage articles. Additionally, you can enjoy them all in our dedicated EDMTunes Spotify Playlist available down below.

Looking Towards 2020

2019 has undoubtedly been one of the best years for Tech-house and for Techno in the 2010s, and it doesn’t seem to be stopping just yet. The year also witnessed an EDM comeback, fueled mostly by the SHM reunion, Tomorrowland’s 15th anniversary and many beautiful EDM new tracks. In the last year of this Electronic-Music-golden-decade, the releases lived up to the standards and kept the bar high.

Today we walk towards the 2020s with a lot of uncertainty about the artists, genres, events, and trends that will shape the dancefloor. But one thing is certain – electronic music is here to stay.

Let us know what you think of our list, and if there’s any other tracks you think also deserve to be part of it. Don’t forget to check out our other end-of-the-year and decade editorials. Happy New Year, and cheers to 2020 and a new phase for electronic music growth.

‘Aquarius’ takes Oliver Helden’s signature sounds and tactically fuses them with new and enticing elements. This is a song that revisits classic house vibes with a deep, intimate, mood-setting aura. Heldens is literally setting the classic house atmosphere in this track by utilizing chords from legendary Kerri Chandler‘s track, ‘Atmospheres’. Heldens infuses classic vibes with a modern twist in his new track.

The craft behind ‘Aquarius’ owes its glory to Heldens’ seamless blending of different elements. The song kicks off with an omitted bassline and punchy percussions that gradually increase in volume as you dive further into the track. This crescendo of ingredients guides listeners from start to finish through cinematic intoxication. Whether you’re a water sign, an Aquarius, or neither, this soulful track is ready to sweep across several dancefloors.

If you’re a fan of Oliver Heldens and Heldeep records, 2020 is going to be a big year to look forward to. With Miami Music Week coming up in March 2020. Heldeep Records will have its very own Heldeep party on March 19th, 2020 with tickets available here. Fans will also be able to see more work from Heldens’ deeper, darker bass-heavy alias, HI-LO soon. Stay tuned for more exciting news on Oliver Heldens as we approach the new year!

3 days: This year was the first time that the festival had expanded to be a three day event in Orlando.

40 acres: EDC Orlando expanded an additional 10.5 acres.

225,000 attendees: There was an increase of 110,000 ravers as compared to last year.

160+ artists with 4 stages: Some performers include Above and Beyond, DJ Snake, deadmau5, Excision, Diplo, and more.

800 lighting fixtures and 700 square meters of video screen

91 noise complaints: Residents who lived over 6 miles away from the venue are affected from the bass and noise.

Over $50 million in revenue: This includes money brought in by festival attendees and payments to local vendors. It surpassed the $35 million from last year.

EDC Orlando has upgraded and improved the festival early, and these numbers and data reflect that. Not only is it beneficial to the attendees, but it also helps the city out. If you missed the festival, you can still find sets from your favorite artists, like Rezz, Seven Lions, RL Grime, Kaskade, Eric Prydz and more!

This year, Ultra Korea witnessed a breathtaking lineup with acts such as Skrillex, Jamie Jones, Knife Party, Underworld, and Virtual Self. Infected Mushroom, Kayzo, and Nghtmre were also part of the line-up. Many local and regional names were also in the line-up, adding the local touch to the international festival. The Korean crowd also got to enjoy their version of the live stage and Resistance stage.

Martin Garrix who was one of the line-up’s headliners unfortunately couldn’t make it due to his ankle injury. The injury caused him to cancel many of his summer acts earlier in 2019. He later got replaced by legend Porter Robinson. The previously announced Swedish House Mafia also cancelled their show last minute. This happened in a series of cancellations this summer of some of their tour dates.

Ultra has become earlier this October the biggest festival brand in the world after they announced new editions. The festival is expanding to Abu Dhabi and returning to India in 2020. Read more about it here.

According to the website, “This ranking reflects the cumulative amount of unique DJ support for tracks played from October 1, 2018 to September 30, 2019.”

The Producers List

As one of the most recognized websites and probably the best to search for the hottest music in the scene right now, 1001Tracklists returns with their new list. The 1001Tracklists Top 101 Producers 2019 features the artists whose tracks were most supported by other DJs in 2019. While some news might be a surprise, others are certainly not. On top of the list, we can find French Producer/DJ legend, David Guetta. While Guetta might not be the top DJ in the world anymore, he’s certainly built an amazing fanbase with a combination of his old and new tracks. Timeless classics and new bangers helped the producer become the most supported artist of 2019.

In the second and third spots, we can find Dutch DJ/Producer Tiësto and American DJ/Producer Skrillex. Fisher and DJ Snake also make an appearance in the top 20, representing the Latin and G-House sub-genres, which are some of the biggest movements in EDM right now.

Holland Is King

Once again, we find the country of Holland taking over the list. 7 of the DJs inside the top 20 come from this country. Along with Tiësto, Don Diablo, Armin Van Buuren, Steff Da Campo, Martin Garrix, Hardwell, and Mr. Sid make an appearance inside this list. It is clear Holland intends to remain the EDM king.

Ups and Downs

This year, the award for DJ who climbed the most spots goes to Holland DJ Jack Wins, who managed to climb 62 spots. On the other side, Luca Bonaire, also from the same country managed to drop 83 spots.

As this list continues to grow, it’s amazing to contemplate how, while some DJs come and go, there are many elite DJs whose music has stood the test of time. These DJs know how to adapt to a market and stay relevant. It will be interesting to see how the list evolves, as we enter a new era in dance music.

Beneath the seams of the overabundance of happy-go-lucky EDM, there lies the realm of i_o‘s House of God EP. Raising techno demons from the depths of the mau5trap label, i_o brings us his biggest and darkest EP release to date.

Los Angeles based producer, Garrett Lockhart (i_o), has been practicing the dark arts of techno since 2017. In 2019, he performed his first Ultra set, played EDC: Las Vegas, and is on the infectious rise to conquer more with his virulent sound.

Coding The ‘House of God’

The House of God EP takes us through a four-song journey into the all-embracing depths of i_o‘s sound. Each song contains different elements of his sound that deliver unique vibes for every track. Imagine stepping into a large underground warehouse to experience these contagious songs.

Starting with a nebulous opening, ‘Possession’ is the first track transporting us to a classic rave warehouse setting. The second track, ‘House of God’ rings out to us the most with its deceptive use of thumping kicks nestled into a long, progressing snare roll build-up with a galvanizing bassline. Looming with darkness, the vocals draw us in even further to the depths, “I keep on talking to myself at night, that’s when the demons come alive at night.”

By the third track, ‘Ghost In The Machine,’ the album shifts into a more minimal, yet uplifting melodic essence. Closing out with Raito as a collaborating partner, ‘Come With Me’ gives us six-minutes of 130 BPM, hard techno bliss. It’s the perfect song to hear at any peaking hour of the night at any major festival or club.

Watch Out For This “Techno Malware”

Coining himself as “techno malware,” i_o executes House of God with a magnetism that we just can’t put down. Showing us the spectrum of his creative sound design, i_o has worked on remixes and collaborations with artists like Above & Beyond and Jauz. There’s something special about this rising artist that will surely innovate the future of dance music. Want to see i_o in your town? Check his tour dates here.

RL Grime – NOVA Pure

RL Grime has blessed the electronic music world today with NOVA Pure. This album features the original versions of ‘Feel Free’, ‘Reims’, ‘Pressure’ and ‘Rainer’. However, the rest of the songs have been stripped to their core, and are presented as instrumental versions.

NOVA Pure is quite a fitting name, as this album presents a free-flowing, pure vibe with the addition of the instrumental versions. Over the last few weeks, he released the instrumental versions of ‘Take It Away’ and ‘UCLA’ individually for free download.

NOVA Pure is out now

as a longtime fan of instrumental albums i wanted to give you the opportunity to listen to NOVA in that form

NOVA is an extremely special album in itself. It took four years to fully develop and produce the album. NOVA showcases an extreme development in RL Grime’s style of production while still maintaining his signature sound. Following the album, he released NOVA (The Remixes) Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 in late 2018. The fact that RL Grime has been able to rework so many variations and remixes of these songs speaks to the power of the original tracks themselves. Enjoy this incredible re-work that is NOVA Pure.

Kygo – Think About You (Galantis Remix) feat. Valerie Broussard

Galantis have added their own personal flair to their remix of the Kygo‘s hit track, ‘Think About You’. The original track has a gentle, slower rhythm, but has a classic, recognizable Kygo vibe. Galantis took it upon themselves for their remix to pick up the pace. Each version has a different momentum, but Valerie Broussard’s amazing vocals are prominent in both. ‘Think About You’ was released on Valentine’s Day, along with a music video. Check it out down below!

Galantis have an extremely distinct, upbeat sound. They are constantly bridging the gap between pop and electronic music in a crafty way. Check out their remix to ‘Think About You’ down below!

It brings me great pleasure to announce that my debut album will be out May 17th via Dim Mak Records (the day before I headline Red Rocks). This has been 14+ months in the making and I’m so incredibly excited to release this into the world. Pre-save is in my profile link ❤️

A post shared by Bear (@itsbeargrillz) on May 6, 2019 at 10:34am PDT

In May 2016, Bear Grillz finally revealed who was truly underneath his bear costume. On The Jerry Springer Show, he unmasked himself as Robert James Pangelinan (RJ).

Bear Grillz is also known to be quite the character. In the biography on his Spotify profile, it reads:

“oRIGINALLY MORE SECRETIVE AND STILL SILLIER THAN DEADMAU5, BEAR GRILLZ IS A DISGUISED EDM PRODUCER WHO CLAIMED TO BE A BEAR THAT FOUND A MACBOOK PRO WHILE WANDERING AROUND YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK.”

His latest tracks are nothing short of impressive and heavy-hitting. He has a very recognizable sound, and seems to be completely embracing it over the last few years. Ultimately, we can only imagine how epic his album Demons will be, and we are stoked to hear it for the first time.

Bear Grillz will also be headlining Red Rocks this summer.

Calling on all dance music lovers, New York welcomes a new festival named Gather Festival! This event will fall on Memorial Day Weekend, May 25-26th, in upstate, Monticello, New York. Surrounded by the beauty of the Catskills, attendees can enjoy an escape from the busy city while being immersed in their favorite dance music and the serenity of nature.

This 21+ festival will feature three stages, showcasing some of the industry’s most unique music. For the fullest experience outdoors, RV and camping options will be available by festival grounds. Parking passes will also be an option for festival goers opting to drive in.

Although Gather may be a newbie in the game, it is backed by organizers, Teksupport. If you think that name sounds familiar, it’s because Teksupport has been dominating the New York City warehouse scene in the past few years.

This is definitely the news we need after the loss of EDC New York, The Meadows Music & Arts Festival, and most recently, Panorama. Stay tuned for more information on Gather!
