Marsh Remixes OceanLab’s Golden Classic ‘Sirens Of The Sea’

The remix we’ve been waiting for since last winter is finally out.

It was about time! Do you wish to progress midway through January with a smile on your face? Then this one is a must. You might be familiar with the whole OceanLab: The Anthology series, which kicked off last November with legendary Trance trio — and OceanLab members — Above & Beyond revisiting their outstanding Progressive Mix of their all-time classic ‘Satellite’. Label veterans Genix and Seven Lions also joined the party with their remixes of ‘Beautiful Together’ and ‘Satellite’ respectively. Today, one more Anjunahero contributes to the collection, none other than Marsh.

“In January 2023, I got an exciting message from Anjuna to see if I’d like to remix an OceanLab classic of my choice! I had the answer deep down – it had to be ‘Sirens Of The Sea’ – one of my all-time favorite trance anthems.”

-Marsh

A man who’s had the absolute busiest time these past years, going on tour before and after unveiling his latest album, Endless, Marsh is, without a doubt, among the leading acts of Anjunadeep as of today. Currently touring the world with his All Night Long concept — a type of Open-To-Close (OTC) show —, many have had the chance to catch a glimpse of his magic, surgical production and mixing techniques.

Also, many who have seen him play, have had the chance to listen to the belter of a remix out today. I say this, because I lived it myself.

Let Us Be The Sirens Of The Sea…

Sometime around February or March of last year, a few videos appeared on the internet in which a new version of OceanLab’s iconic ‘Sirens Of The Sea’ was being played. Those with a love for everything Anjuna would know the style of said remix sounded very familiar to a certain Marsh. Further material showing Tom himself behind the decks playing the track solidified the rumours: it was his own take.

Since then, ‘Sirens Of The Sea (Marsh Remix)’ has become a staple of his sets. The 3-hour-long Malta set included it, for instance.

Buenos Aires, A Personal Story

A while back, I had the chance to go and watch Tom play in 2GTHR, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The set was out of this world, you can read the review if you want. But a very special story I can tell from that night is that, maybe entirely by chance, I, standing at the front of the pack, raised my phone in the air with a simple note: “HAVE YOU GOT SIRENS OF THE SEA”. Not only did he look at me dead in the eye and said “Yes”, in such a calm voice, but he played it RIGHT AWAY. One of the most intense connections I’ve had with a DJ so far.

“Another savoury treat Tom dropped on the dancefloor was an upcoming remix for Above & Beyond‘s OceanLab – Sirens Of The Sea. Won’t spoil it to you, but I think I never stopped moving and singing during that track.”

-Myself, halfway through my article ‘Marsh Tears it Apart in Buenos Aires, Again‘.

‘Sirens Of The Sea (Marsh Remix)’

Marsh playing live.

This version of the Trance classic is, as you’d expect, a masterpiece. With a base and style so true to Marsh yet staying so elegantly close to the original and its intent, it’s safe to say Tom not only crafted something beautiful, his remix is a tribute to Tony’s, Jono’s, Paavo’s and Justine’s track from over 15 years ago.

Tom’s adaptation contains the rhythmic chords we’re all familiar with, but in his signature warm sine-plucky sound, apart from a tasty selection of drums, crispy enough to lift you up from the chill vibe the track portrays. The break, on another note, beautifully captures the essence of that long-gone Trance, with enough ambiance to make you levitate while singing to the easygoing chorus of Justine Suissa’s angelical goodness of a voice. In the most Tony-like way possible, plase say “Mmmmmmmmm“.
