In a randomized study involving 198 adults aged 18 to 74 diagnosed with moderate to severe GAD, participants received one of four LSD dosages or a placebo. The treatment was administered under clinical supervision—yet no psychotherapy was provided during the session.

Just 24 hours later, individuals who received the highest dosages – 100 or 200 micrograms – began reporting significant reductions in anxiety symptoms. These improvements became more pronounced by the fourth week, outperforming those given lower doses or a placebo.

Twelve weeks post-treatment, the results stood out: approximately 65% of patients treated with the 100 µg dose continued to benefit, and nearly half had achieved full remission. Depression symptoms also noticeably improved in this group – effects not seen in recipients of lower doses. MindMed’s researchers now consider 100 micrograms the optimal amount for future trials.

Safety was also a consideration. Although common side effects included hallucinations, nausea, and headaches, there were no incidents of self-harm or suicidal behavior among participants.

The FDA has granted MindMed’s LSD-based treatment a “breakthrough therapy” designation, a status that could streamline its path to approval. Meanwhile, the company is already running a larger Phase 3 trial, expected to yield results in late 2026.

Experts have hailed the findings as a potentially transformative development in psychiatric treatment. Historically, there’s been scant innovation for GAD—no new drugs have been approved since 2007. While psychedelics are surging anew as treatment options, researchers caution that distinguishing true drug effects from placebo remains difficult. Many participants could tell whether they’d received LSD or a placebo, potentially skewing results.

It is very Diplo-like to be tripping on live TV and have no one be able to notice. The co-hosts burst out laughing as Diplo clarified that he was showing some restraint. “It’s like a light trip,” he noted. It must have been a microdose, because Diplo was able to perform at three shows in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve.

Anderson Cooper sounded impressed with Diplo’s approach to work and play. “I wish I was Diplo,” the CNN anchor admitted. “I got to say. I just think he has a fun, cool lifestyle. Can you imagine his lifestyle?” I think we all wish a little we were Diplo.

The US Department of Justice recommended that marijuana be rescheduled as a Schedule III controlled substance, a classification shared by prescription drugs such as ketamine and Tylenol with codeine. It currently sits as a Schedule I substance. The same category as Heroin, LSD, and MDMA. The formal rulemaking process is lengthy, typically includes a public comment period, and could take months to complete.

The rescheduling of marijuana might mark the beginning of the end of the war on drugs. It could open the doors for Psilocybin and MDMA, which also have had many studies for medical benefits. Last fall, members of the FDA’s Controlled Substance Staff wrote in the documents that the agency recommended rescheduling marijuana because it meets three criteria: a lower potential for abuse than other substances on Schedules I and II; a currently accepted medical use in treatment in the US; and a risk of low or moderate physical dependence in people who abuse it.

Currently, 24 states have legalized cannabis for recreational use. This has led to a multi-billion dollar industry with dispensaries everywhere you look. State-licensed cannabis dispensaries and retail shops are expected to generate $32.1 billion in sales this year.

MindMed’s MM120 will still undergo the standard FDA approval process, including phase III trials. Two other companies have also received FDA breakthrough therapy status: psilocybin and MDMA.

A single dose of MM120 (lysergide d-tartrate) led to a 48% rate of remission from generalized anxiety disorder at 12 weeks following the drug’s administration, according to MindMed. The drug also significantly improved clinical signs of generalized anxiety disorder for 65% of patients within three months.

They have found that 100 micrograms is the right dose to treat anxiety. They have not seen any more improvements going to 200 micrograms and no additional adverse effects either.

The MM120 study was accomplished without the use of psychotherapy during the session. Most research with MDMA and psilocybin relied on trained therapists who talked through the experience with their patients.

Dr. Daniel Karlin, assistant professor of psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine and chief medical officer for MindMed had this to say:

“A breakthrough designation is a recognition that a drug has demonstrated evidence of clinical efficacy in meeting an unmet medical need with morbidity and mortality associated with it”

In an earlier post, which has since been removed from Instagram but still remains on Twitter, Diplo shared several videos of him before, during, and after the race, one of which includes a video of him adding five drops of LSD into a water bottle.

In 1994, Oprah completed the Marine Corps Marathon in 4 hours and 29 minutes. Diplo noted in his post that he completed the marathon in 3 hours and 35 minutes, although his official time shared in one of his photos noted he did it in 3 hours and 55 minutes. Either way, quite the achievement.

The resolution also called on state and federal governments to decriminalize psychedelics. It may be a matter of time before we see California overall make this move. The United States, well that may take some more time. The documents were quoted saying:

“[psychedelics] can benefit psychological and physical wellness…have been shown to be beneficial for people dealing with addiction, trauma, and anxiety.”   

The current list of cities all with similar laws includes Oakland, Santa Cruz, Denver, and Washington D.C. In 2020, Oregon became the first state to fully legalize mushrooms for treatment relating to mental health issues. Facilities will also be up and running by 2023.

Many states are continuing to study the benefits of psychedelics and MDMA. Data has already shown it can assist with depression, PTSD, and other mental health issues. California State attempted to decimalize shrooms, LSD, MDMA, DMT, and ibogaine but failed. It will be on hold until next year.

Scientists observed 191 participants by giving them either capsules of psychedelics or placebo. The capsules contained a low dose of LSD (estimated at 13 micrograms). After four weeks of observation, they noticed those taking placebos saw similar improvements in mood to those that took the LSD capsules. This included improvements in wellbeing, creativity, and overall cognitive performance.

Placebo participants were quite shocked to find out that they weren’t taking the real drug. One placebo-taker spoke to them generating a powerful ‘altered consciousness’ experience based only on the expectation around the possibility of a microdose. Another saw colors more vividly. It seems just the idea of taking psychedelics caused many to imagine the benefits. Balázs Szigeti, a research associate at Imperial College London, spoke to the limitations of the study – one being participants sourcing their own drugs.

Regardless of limitations, there is something to be said about the study. If it is true that the placebo effect is present in those “microdosing”, this might just be the new thing. Imagine tapping into your inner spirits by receiving what you think is a small dose of LSD. In reality, your mind is being tricked. This truly shows the power of mind over matter. As long as we believe the illusion, we might just have better days and even years of life.

We do not know the sources of the drugs, only that they’re coming from Spain, Romania, Italy, the Netherlands, and Colombia.

With the amount of substances seized, the 217 liters of liquid meth yielded 738kg of speed. So, this makes it the biggest amphetamine seizure in Spain as well. Barcelona laboratories have been hard at work cracking this case. In fact, specialist offers took on fire from a gang member when they raided their property. That means they’re the most important criminal organization dedicated to the manufacture and trafficking of synthetic drugs in Spain’s history of drug trafficking.

Sources say the gang funded their operations by smuggling hashish and marijuana to the UK and the Netherlands. They had expert cooks in making speed, meth, and MDMA, working in two laboratories in Barcelona. They stored their stash in three-phase electric transformers hidden in cars. Once shipped to their destination, they were removed and replaced with synthetic drugs for the return home. This isn’t the first or second time that drugs have been found in creative ways.

Congrats to the Spanish police for this massive impoundment. Their operation took almost a year, and it looks like it paid off.
