‘Today the Higher Court in Leeuwarden ruled on appeal that Martin Garrix (Martijn Garritsen) had no legal right to break his agreements prematurely with Spinnin’ Records and MusicAllStars Management.
The ruling confirms that the production- and management agreements with Martin Garrix were established correctly and properly complied with, by Spinnin’ Records and MusicAllStars Management. The accusation by Garrix that agreements were unreasonable has also been rejected: “It can be concluded that Martin Garrix was not falsely led into agreements in 2012 en 2013” the Higher Court said. According to the Higher Court, the agreements expired in mid-2015 and not before.”

In 2015, Garrix announced on Social Media he was splitting from Spinnin’ Records, his label, and MusicAllStars Management, his management company, based on accusations of contractual impropriety and a conflict of interest as both companies were run by Eelko Van Kooten. Despite the 2017 decision that affirmed Van Kooten could have avoided a conflict of interest by introducing a 3rd party arbiter, the appeals Court ruled that Martin Garrix had no legal grounds to nullify their relationship prematurely. Shortly after the decision went public, Van Kooten commented:

“I am delighted with the ruling of the Higher Court that we made valid agreements with Martijn at the time, which should have been respected. This statement confirms that the accusation of deception or fraud was unjustified. Even though I have since sold Spinnin’ Records and MusicAllStars Management, those accusations were also aimed at me personally. I look back with pride on a successful collaboration with Martijn and wish him the best in his further career.”

Details Still Developing

Martin Garrix will have to pay for damages based on lost revenue which has yet to be determined; a previous countersuit from both companies sought €6.4 million in lost revenue from Garrix’s abandonment of contractual obligations.

ULTRA Miami 2014

At the age of 18, his Ultra Miami 2014 set marked his first mainstage performance in the U.S. Here he premiered several massive tracks that we still love today. These tracks included collaborations with Dillion Francis, Hardwell, and Afrojack. ‘Tremor,’ ‘Gold Skies,’ and ‘Turn Up The Speakers’ are still staples in his live sets today. Finally, given the popularity of Ultra, the world got to see who this Martin Garrix kid was.

ULTRA Miami 2016

After leaving Spinnin’ Records to start his own record label, STMPD RCRDS, Martin Garrix’s live performances took on a different sound. Many think this set was the beginning of the Martin we hear today. With having the honor of closing our Friday night, he premiered his most streamed song to date ‘In The Name Of Love.’ He also showed off some music from his alias ‘Area21.’

Coachella 2017

Martin Garrix’s second time at Coachella was a grand one. He got a primetime slot at the Sahara stage where he more than lit up the crowd. This was a unique show because months after we actually got to see how hard it is to prepare through the Martin Garrix Show.

He brought out Dua Lipa to perform their hit ‘Scared To Be Lonely.’ Non-EDM festivals are usually a little harder to play but once again Martin showed why he is the best in the business.

Tomorrowland 2017

One of his most iconic intros ringed throughout Tomorrowland first. The crowd got sucked in and ‘Byte’ got the party started. This headlining set is Martin’s most viewed Tomorrowland set and for good reason. He premiered a ton of tracks including ‘So Far Away,’ ‘Burn out’ and ‘Pizza.’

EDC Las Vegas 2018

Martin finally got his firework time slot at EDC in 2018. He brought a much harder music selection to appease the carnival crowd too. With the fireworks as a backdrop, Garrix exclaimed to the crowd “Is this real life?” making us really wonder if it is. He accompanied the 10-minute show with a mashup of ‘Pizza’ and ‘You’ve Got The Love,’ and followed it up with classic ‘The Only Way Is Up.’ A bucket list set for many and one we hope to get again in the future.

Amsterdam Dance Event 2018

Garrix headlined Amsterdam Dance Event once again in 2018. This show took on a completely different style. He presented ANIMA: a nearly two-hour show that featured 300 Robe moving lights, breathtaking visuals on a 52-meter wide screen, and his iconic LED Plus sign. Because Martin never disappoints he even uploaded the set in 4K with 5.1 surround sound for everyone to watch. This live performance is one we all wish we could have been at.

Meowingtons Hax Toronto 2011

Deadmau5 took the stage in his home town of Toronto to perform with the refined version of his Cube. In addition to playing some of his most revered tracks, SOFI showed up. As a result, we got to hear a full performance of ‘SOFI Needs A Ladder‘ followed by ‘One Trick Pony‘.

Deadmau5 X Nokia Lumia London

In co-operation between Nokia, Joel had a London tower litten up with visuals. A highlight recording surfaced on YouTube showcasing ‘FML‘, ‘Professional Griefers‘, ‘Moar Ghosts N Stuff‘ and ‘Bad Selection‘.

EDC Las Vegas 2019

Soon after debuting The Cube v3 at Ultra, the Mau5trap owner took to EDC Las Vegas without his creation. His time on stage started with a Testpilot leaning sound which transferred to some fan favorites. The artist proves yet again that he can keep fans tuned in for his work.

Around the peak when Martin Garrix‘s ‘Animals‘ went viral, deadmau5 played it as an ‘Old Macdonald‘ flip. This happened to the surprise of many at Ultra, with many expecting the original or confused that he played it. The clip reigns atop numerous trolls by Joel and will always be a fun remnant.

Deadmau5 B2B Testpilot

Colliding two worlds, Zimmerman performed a two hour mix for BBC Radio One’s Essential mix series. Listening to the first hour, Testpilot original sound punches through which contrasts the Deadmau5 mix taking over the second. Don’t forget that you can hear ‘A Seed’, ‘Midas Heel’, ‘Saturn’ and ‘Coasted’ in all their glory. This concluded in a satisfying two hours of music curated for fans of both monikers.

Cube v3 Debut

The Cube grew and evolved as the years passed by, with the first toured model shown in the starting video. deadmau5 then revived it and toured the 2.1 version. For Ultra 2019, the artist announced that he wanted to perform with the third version. Luckily, we got a live stream of the performance (which did not go without a hitch). The Cage

Glastonbury 2015, Deadmau5 showed off his Cage stage design on stream. While the stage did not receive much action, we at least have a recording to look towards.

Joel took to Reddit to update us on The Cube and his creative state. Furthermore, he’s looking to debut the third version of the Cube at UK’s Creamfields festival. He kicks off a North American tour on September 12 which you can buy tickets for here.

What began as an underground movement following the demise of disco, electronic dance music has since catapulted into a 6 billion dollar industry. Now the genre featured on top charts regularly, and selling out festivals around the globe, has the attention of the entire world, but how did it get to this point?

What We Started a documentary from Bert Marcus & Cyrus Saidi aims to explain just that. Contrasting Carl Cox’s 30-year career, with Martin Garrix’s explosive rise to fame, the documentary includes interviews with heavy hitters such as Erick Morillo, Moby, David Guetta, Steve Angello, Afrojack, Paul Oakenfold, Seth Troxler, and Tiësto. 

The film premiered Thursday, March 22 in Miami, and the red carpet was a family affair. Bert Marcus, Cyrus Saidi, Carl Cox, Martin Garrix, Paul Oakenfold and Paris Hilton were just a few of the stars in attendance. It was clear that the group of people who made this documentary were close friends, as hugs and smiles were in abundance that night.

Following the premiere, was an intimate Q&A with the directors, Cox, and Garrix in which attendees were able to see up close and personal, just how much emotion is behind the careers of all DJs and producers in the electronic dance music genre. In the words of Carl Cox, “it really is all about the music.”

Martin Garrix, born as Martijn Gerard Garritsen, is a 21 year old Dutch EDM producer and DJ that is currently ranked the #1 DJ in the World according to DJ Mag‘s Top 100 DJs competition, and in the process he became the youngest No.1 DJ in DJ Mag history. He is currently a resident at Hï Ibiza and is the label head of STMPD RCRDS.

Garrix’s rise to fame is largely attributed to his massive breakout hit “Animals” which was released in 2013 – which makes it 4 years old as of Tuesday!
“Animals” is still considered one of the most iconic festival anthems to date, with its hard hitting drop, – which is evident by its over 1 billion views on YouTube.

Martin was first inspired to produce dance track after seeing fellow Dutch legend Tiesto perform in 2004 at the Olympic games in Athens. He began ghost producing for a close friend that eventually was signed by Spinnin’ Records, according to an interview with Dutch radio host Wessel van Diepen. After meeting with Spinnin’ management and showing his own productions, Martin went on to sign a record deal with them in 2012, and this partnership lasted until 2016 – when he branched off to found his own record label.

Since then, Martin has released numerous high-charting tracks such as Wizard, Tremor, Don’t Look Down Ft. Usher,In the Name of Love, and most recently his collaboration with Troye Sivan titled “There For You.

Space Ibiza recently shut down after being taken over by Ushuaia and the Matutes Group and it looks like their plan for the location’s future is coming into place with Martin Garrix set to begin a residency there. The new venue will be called Hi and it will be a luxury club made for the upper class crowd like places in Las Vegas and Miami. Garrix is one of the first residents to be announced and there is no doubt that his level of star power makes him the perfect artist for this spot. When your rise to fame happens before you’ve lived for two decades, there are sure to be people who would jump at the opportunity to take advantage of your lack of experience. For young superstar Martin Garrix, that seems to be exactly what happened.

After splitting with Spinnin’ Records over an ownership dispute, the Dutch DJ/producer is filing a lawsuit against his ex-manager, Eelko van Kooten of the aforementioned record label. According to Billboard, the Netherlands based publication Telegraaf reported that Garrix plans to sue van Kooten over “false and misleading information” that was provided to the young artist while paperwork and signatures were being exchanged.

At the young age of only 19, Garrix has produced hits such as the notorious “Animals“, a collaboration with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike entitled “Tremor“, and his effervescent single “Forbidden Voices“. It was at the age of 17 that he signed a contract with MusicAllStars Management and Scooter Braun Projects. For now, neither party has made an official statement.

DJs are infamous for reusing introductions to their set, so when they change it, it is quite refreshing.  After some time off after ADE, the recently acclaimed #3 DJ in the world, (according to DJMag Top 100), Martin Garrix played Haunted Fest in Columbus, Ohio.  Garrix was the headliner of a pretty stacked lineup featuring Cash Cash, NGHTMRE, Pierce Fulton, and Snails (alphabetical order). This is the location where we heard Garrix’s special piano driven “Animals” intro edit for the second time.  The first time Martin played this special edit for his fans was during ADE at Heineken Music Hall.  Garrix retains the original melody of “Animals” and slowly builds it up into the drop of his latest single “Poison”.  The videos of this beautiful piano edit are below, enjoy!
