Klas Bergling, Avicii’s father, will be speaking out about mental health awareness at the International Music Summit (IMS) in Ibiza this May. Specifically, he will break down what the Tim Bergling Foundation is doing to educate people about mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

The Tim Bergling Foundation was started by Avicii’s family, nearly a year after his unexpected death at only 28 years old. In a press release from the family, they stated that the foundation “will initially focus on supporting people in the field of mental illness and suicide prevention”. His family also said:

“STARTING A FOUNDATION IN HIS NAME IS OUR WAY TO HONOR HIS MEMORY AND CONTINUE TO ACT IN HIS SPIRIT.”

Avicii’s death shocked the world and brought newfound attention to the serious mental struggles he was navigating through as an artist. Additionally, it highlighted the importance of recognizing and treating the early signs of mental health issues.

Last year at the IMS, BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong gave an incredibly emotional address for Avicii. He placed great emphasis on the fact that his death was a tragic, unnecessary loss of life.

This year, the 2019 summit will, yet again, facilitate discussions about mental health awareness within the music industry. Pete Tong and Klas Bergling will speak together. Additionally, there will be a series of other keynote speakers and mental health experts.
