For some people, Facebook is an app for sharing memes and keeping up with grandma. However, as a company, Facebook is much more than an app and now the company wants you to recognize it, especially in its logo.
On November 4th, Facebook announced an update in its company branding, including a new company logo. According to Facebook’s Chief Marketing Director Antonio Lucio, the update looks to make clear the products that come from Facebook.
“The new branding was designed for clarity, and uses custom typography and capitalization to create visual distinction between the company and app,” said Lucio.
Since its inception fifteen years ago, Facebook has become a collection of products. Products encompassed in the Facebook brand include WhatsApp, Oculus, and Portal.
In addition, Facebook-owned apps will include the new logo and say “from Facebook”. You may notice the change on the login screen for one of Facebook’s most notable apps, Instagram.
The announcement from Facebook comes just a week after the company decided to ban ‘sexual emojis’ on Facebook and Instagram.
