Insomniac Announces Video Game Themed Music Festival Called PLAY

The music festival space continues to evolve in interesting new ways. While some festivals had to say goodbye, we are still seeing new ideas pop up. The latest festival entrant comes from Insomniac and it centers around video games. Competitive gaming is exploding and it closely intertwines with the EDM world in so many ways.

Insomniac is bringing us PLAY, a music festival that combines music, gaming, eSports, activations, and cosplay. You’ll have the biggest DJs combined with professional gamers and other celebrities. In addition to live performances you’ll have gaming competitions and gaming fun.

“These two worlds have so many parallels. They’re colorful and high energy, they attract an audience that’s extremely passionate about community, and there’s a level of creative expression that both cosplayers and ravers share that you don’t see anywhere else. I’m excited to bring these two worlds together in a live environment like it’s never been done before.” – Pasquale Rotella

PLAY will feature classic arcade games, virtual reality, laser tag, drone racing, and more. The festival comes from the co-founder of Life in Color, Paul Campbell and he was inspired to do this because video games helped inspire his love of EDM.

“Early on it was the jingle from games like Mario Bros.that we all fell in love with. Then a lot of sports games curated full soundtracks with current music, and Grand Theft Auto really took it to another level, allowing you to control radio stations featuring all types of genres while driving across the city.”

No lineups or locations yet but it’s coming in 2019 so stay tuned!
