Pretty Lights- Only Yesterday

Three years ago, Derek Vincent Smith, better known as Pretty Lights, dropped his monumental, Grammy nominated album, A Color Map of the Sun. This was a significant moment in Smith’s maturation as an artist, as he began creating his own samples from a wide range of genres, while strictly using direct analog recordings from live instruments. Aside from releasing the hidden gems off his album in a package titled “The Hidden Shades“, Derek has largely left his fans awaiting new music. For those rabid listeners, the wait is now over. Pretty Lights has returned with a brand new song, complete with an accompanying music video titled, “Only Yesterday“. This release is particularly excitingfor the Pretty Lights family, as the release came with Derek’s announcement of his camping festival‘s return to Telluride, August 26-27.

Pretty Lights introduced his newest video with a deeply personal message. “Only Yesterday” is a track that attempts to express something very honest, how trying to be yourself may sometimes feel like an ongoing struggle. The video is a piece of cinematic nostalgia, an effort that collectively acknowledges how important it is for an individual to find meaningful connections with their friends. The comments speak for themselves, with the video evoking powerful emotions around images of carefree fun, and simpler times. His fans are sure to relish this ambient masterpiece, which brings vibrant soul to hip-hop beats with the help of The Analog Future Band and former Pretty Lights member, Michael Menert. Tickets for Pretty Lights’ festival may be purchased here tomorrow, Wednesday March 9 at 10:00 am MST.
