Happy Pride!

The weekend started strong with performances from Pop icons Ke$ha and Adam Lambert on friday. Saturday saw the likes of Purple Disco Machine, Doechii, Janelle Monae and Keke Palmer. Lastly, the gays continued the celebration with performances by Diplo, Bebe Rexha, Kylie Minogue and Kiesza. It is great to see Kiesza after a big hiatus caused by a traffic accident. She returned with a goal to connect with the EDM community in her newest project and we can’t wait to hear her stunning vocals on incredible upbeat jams.

The festival had a rather simplistic layout as it only had two stages. The main stage opened into the massive park that hosted artists like Ashnikko and Channel Tres. The smaller stage Summertramp easily became one of our favorite spots of the weekend. A whimsical stage with added turf and massive floaties gave the illusion of a fun pool party. With an incredible layout and fun atmosphere, the Summertramp stage was evidence that “the gays know how to party”.

More than just a music festival, Outloud strongly represents the LGBTQIA+ community and its important role in the foundation of Dance music. As this demographic continues under political turmoil and their existence is politicized, events like Outloud strengthen the sense of community and support we all need in the face of adversity.

The hot and heavy dance bash is located within the OUTLOUD Music Festival and will take place from 1 p.m. – 12:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, and from 1 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 2. Presented in partnership with SUMMERTRAMP creator Andrés Rigal, the event features the hottest electronic dance beats of the summer.

Lineup

Produced by JJLA, SUMMERTRAMP’s full lineup includes pulsating DJ sets and mesmerizing performances by Purple Disco Machine and Hot Chip (DJ Set). Snow Wife, Kaleena Zanders, DJ Holographic, Crystal Waters, Kiesza, Shaun Ross are some of the names in the lineup. BabiBoi, Jimi The Kween, Masha Mar, Star Amerasu, Montana Malone, Nico Craig, Mez, Jack Faulkner are set to perform as well. Deesco, Josh Peace, Aaron Colbert, Casey Alva, Kimber Chronic, Mike Taylor, Daisy O’Dell conclude the lineup.

OUTLOUD Music Festival will feature three days of stellar performances. The weekend begins with WeHo Pride Presents Friday Night at OUTLOUD, a free community event. Friday’s lineup features headliner Kesha with additional acts including Adam Lambert, Monét X Change. Other performances include Laganja Estranja vs. Morphine Love Dion, Niña Dioz, Jessica Betts, Owenn, and Venessa Michaels.

OUTLOUD Music Festival at WeHo Pride continues on Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, June 2. Headliners include Kylie Minogue, Janelle Monáe,and Diplo + Friends. The full weekend requires a ticket purchase to attend.  There will be performances by Doechii, Ashnikko, Noah Cyrus, Trixie Mattel (DJ Set), Keke Palmer, Channel Tres, and Yaeji. Big Freedia, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and VINCINT, Snow Wife, Destiny Rogers, Black Polish, Salina EsTitties, Doug Locke, Jimi The Kween, and Zee Machine are all set to perform.

Back in February of 2019 Tommy Trash surprised us all by coming back via a collaboration with the then red-hot, i_o, titled ‘Let Me Go‘ on Mau5trap. Since then, he’s remixed Deadmau5 & Kiesza’s ‘Bridged By A Lightwave‘, and even released the debut track for the house-centered mau5trap label, Hau5trap. He did so with his tune, ‘hiiigh‘. Now he’s following that up with ‘Tectonic’, alongside Kiesza. If you’re into this new wave of progressive house that’s currently sweeping the world of dance music, you’re gonna love this one!

Words From the Artists’

When asked about what ‘Tectonic‘ meant to him, Tommy Trash had the following to say:

“A few years ago I found myself in a bit of a pickle mentally, spiritually, emotionally, creatively and it took a lot of work to get out of that hole. But I can say unequivocally without the experience of going away and properly working on myself, I’d still be stuck. Ayahuasca was a big part of that process for me. This single ‘Tectonic’ is the culmination of that work and a true representation of where I’m headed as an artist. I wrote the instrumental in Bali while I was away on my sabbatical. I loved working with Kiesza on it – she is an incredible lyricist with unrivaled vocal chops. Im super grateful to be working with her and excited for what the future will bring…” 

Similarly, Kiesza had the following to say in regards to ‘Tectonic’:

“I began ‘Tectonic’ as a folk song on my mother’s grand piano and Tommy Trash took the song to a level I could have never imagined. I love how the unique combination of the deep poetic lyrics and haunting melody combines so effortlessly with Tommy’s energetic and driving electronic house music, to create the most beautiful sense of melancholy. I’m blown away by his creativity and talent as a producer and definitely can not wait to create more music with him!”

Tectonic

‘Tectonic’ starts off with a quick piano arpeggio, which is quickly paired with the lush, sultry vocals of Kiesza. The melancholic, self-reflecting vocals of Kiesza are laid upon the beautiful production work of Tommy Trash. This is a duo, that I did not know I needed. After hearing ‘Tectonic’, I really hope the two of them work together again, and soon. This tune reminds me of something you’d probably find on Anjunadeep, or possibly even Monstercat Silk. If I didn’t know any better, I would have thought this could have been a Yotto, or even Lane 8 tune, however since I do know better, I know that this is Tommy Trash.

If you’re a fan of Tommy Trash, Keisza, or all things Hau5trap, then this is a tune for you. With a run time of 3:43, this is a song that you may find yourself coming back to over and over again. With that being said, Tommy Trash & Kiesza‘s latest collaboration, ‘Tectonic’, is out now on Hau5trap, and can be streamed below, enjoy!

JURGAZ & QV!N – Put Em Up

First up, JURGAZ & QV!N delivered a staggering monolith bass track on ‘Put Em Up‘. Within, the exciting build-up leaves us with a gargantuan wide bass tone alongside the deep kick. It has all the makings of a fiery trap and bass hybrid that’s perfect for any stage. There’s no doubting the talent of these producers, and we’ll surely be seeing their names rise up in rank anytime soon.

Menna – Show Me Your Love

Menna forms an elegant fusion between piano-led house and pop vocals on his release, ‘Show Me Your Love‘. The energy throughout the track maintains through lush grooves and soft airy synth plucks leading us on melodically. Furthermore, the second bridge features bright guitar chords that comfortably sit within the mix.

Sam Parker – Blue Skies (feat. Sam Ellwood)

Taking us on a warm and vibrant journey, Sam Parker released ‘Blue Skies‘ and it features Sam Ellwood. Instrumentally, cozy pads play alongside softened piano chords. From there, light percussion join with a deep powerful kick following during the chorus. On the vocal front, Sam’s airy, free-flowing, and breathy vocals bring all the elements together, leaving us a memorable track.

Kennedy One – Calling You (Nick Warren & Nicolas Rada remix)

Nick Warren and Nicolas Rada come together to produce a remix of ‘Calling You‘ by Kennedy One. Within, each producer’s distinct sound is championed, giving plenty of room for a healthy merger. Throughout, the tepid synth work forms a hypnotic element that works wonders alongside the consistent drum groove. Additionally, the release comes to us via avanti (Black Hole Recordings).

Andreas Stone – Hungry Heart

‘Hungry Heart‘ by Andreas Stone is electro-pop in every manner. It brings together catchy vocal melodies with plucks, soon joined by a kick. From there, the bridge highlights singing as piano chords play along, until the synths take us to a riser. For the chorus, Andreas opted for a soft lead that brings about a gleeful brightness. The track is clearly inspired by a grouping of genres in which the producer plucked away particular elements.

Boye & Sigvardt, Kiesza – The Feelings

Bringing together their talents, Boye & Sigvardt team up with Kiesza to unveil ‘The Feelings‘. It quickly jumps into the meat of things, giving us Kiesza’s singing upfront while the production lifts it up. Throughout, the ear-worm nature of the track can’t be escaped, filled to the brim with infectious melodies. That’s not all, since the dance groove at the chorus provides movement, rich with synth-work. Nonetheless, Kiesza’s powerful voice takes the track to the absolute next level.

Adellic – Talise

Lastly, Adellic takes notes from deep and G house, pitting them in the producer’s fashion on ‘Talise‘. Banging kicks and bass color the track while the percussion carries its weight. Throughout, Adellic constantly switches things up by taking us from one point to another while maintaining the headline production aspects.

deadmau5 is notorious for his legendary rants and feuds with other artists. He pokes fun at himself in titles, but they double as woke jokes. Though, he is an immaculate producer. His repertoire of spine-tingling melodies over rock-steady progressive live in us forever.

As the year comes to an end, live events still have a hazy future. With promised events for now, let’s hope that we’re seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

As always, deadmau5 takes us to his own world where he still works with his signature style and sounds, and we love it. This ambitious production also features Kiesza’s talent with breathtaking vocals. The result is a wonderful track that could be one of the best releases of the year.

Joel Zimmerman aka deadmau5 has been active lately. The Canadian recently released an official playlist ahead of ADE 2020. It includes music from Mau5trap mainstays such as Jay Robinson, No Mana, and Bentley Dean , as well as newer artists such as Speaker Honey and more. In addition, he is also working on new Testpilot music.

‘Bridged By a Lightwave’ is a marvelous track by deadmau5 and Kiesza. Stunning production skills combine with Kiesza’s voice in order to complete a stunning track which leaves a memorable mark. It is obvious that when artists like these two share some time in the studio, tracks like this are only a matter of time.

JAHKOY – Let It Be

Think you know a little something something about modern Canadian musicians, eh? “O yeah, Deadmau5, Michael Bublé, Zeds Dead, they’re the best,” you may say, “Kiesza and the Weekend are also pretty dope vocalists, some of the best in the business.” You’re not wrong, but now you’re leaving out one of the best up-and-comers to come from North America’s top-hot since J Biebs picked up a guitar: JAHKOY. With his roots in Toronto and current home in LA, this young singer-songrwriter has been slowly building a musical repertoire deserving of some serious praise.

His latest release, ‘Let It Be’, is an uppity track with a light heart that’s pumping out some serious emotional vibes. Plucky synths and swelling chords flow creamy smooth in the background to match the young man’s mellifluous voice; with this production, JAHKOY continuous to successfully walk a hair-thin tightrope across pop, hip-hop, and dance music. Jack Ü – Take Ü There (Missy Elliott Remix)

Not many stars can steal the spotlight from a flame-adorned Katy Perry riding a giant silver lion, but thats exactly what Missy Elliott did with her jaw-dropping Super Bowl performance. Elliott’s comeback was a long time coming; the rapper achieved incredible critical acclaim in the 90’s and early 2000’s but has rarely made public appearances since. Proving that she’s just as relevant and impactful as she was 10 years ago, Elliott quickly teamed up with one of dance music’s most talked about duos, Jack Ü, to add some hip-hop flair to their signature track ‘Take Ü There’.

Skrillex and Diplo’s super-duo is well known for a frantic, reggae-inspired sound that prominently features blaring horns and hip-hop inspired beats, making this collaboration a match made in heaven. Missy Elliott expertly layers her fast and furious verses over the track’s blazing drop, and perfectly keeps up with the song’s quick pace. A dirty beat and irreverent (but clever) lyrics were Elliott’s trademarks at the peak of her popularity and ‘Take Ü There’ gives her a chance to show a younger generation, and new audience, that she’s back and better than ever.
