Fans of Trance, spice, and everything nice (hope you get that reference): regroup once more today for a hot new tune! We’ve heard the news that our favourite Progressive Trance veteran ilan Bluestone is back in Dance Town, and he’s doing so in style — not that we expected anything less anyway.

Like most, ilan’s journey in Electronic music began with a spark of passion at a young age. Unlike most, he got to the top of the Trance world, and he’s been up there for a good chunk of years, showing no signs of coming back down. Over 10 years ago, landing a spot on the esteemed Anjunabeats label became a pivotal moment for him. Once a stone, quickly rose to a gem in the span of just a few years. He directed a few compilations on the label, played alongside Above & Beyond on their ABGT milestone gigs, and released uncountable singles and not one, two artist albums.

Past that era and following his initial focus on Trance, ilan Bluestone has continuously demonstrated artistic evolution. He’s dared incorporate elements of Progressive House and other genres such as Techno into his productions, and has worked with — and remixed — some of the greatest artists out there. A few examples are Paul van Dyk, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Chicane, Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond, and BT.

‘Echoes of Courage’

After a period of spellbinding remixes, collaborations, and even releases under the Elysian moniker — alongside Maor Levi and Emma Hewitt —, ilan is now lifting the veil on his first solo track in over a year, ‘Echoes of Courage‘. Premiered by Armin van Buuren at A State of Trance 2024 in Rotterdam and included on the ‘A State of Trance 2024’ mix album, this track also serves as Bluestone’s original track debut on the legendary Armind label.

If there’s something one could point out straight away from ilan’s more recent sound is the fact that he’s been using warm, analogue saws in quite the old-fashioned fashion. It’s a nice, sober, elegant touch to an already top-notch sound. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a sucker for his older Anjuna stuff as it is the one repertoire that got me into Trance in the first place, but I love this little piece of ear candy that hints at yesteryear’s Trance trends.

And regarding the rest of the track — since I dove so deep into just one sound —, this one is the true embodiment of a Progressive Trance tune. It’s got Trance written all over it, with arpeggios, leads, the saws previously mentioned, and floaty textures, but it has just as much power and bite during the drops, which carry all the energy that is synonym to the ilan Bluestone sound that has become a trailblazer for many.

Get ready because this one sure hits you like a truck! Look no further if you were in need of new music, because Armind has you covered. And it does so with a staggering new track coming from a pair which doesn’t come to mind straight away: Giuseppe Ottaviani and ilan Bluestone.

First teased some months ago by the two Trance legends, Giuseppe played it on a couple of sets and then the hype sort of slowed down. That is, until today. The author of tracks like ‘Linking People‘, and ‘Toys‘ featuring Betsie Larkin, meets the creator of ‘Spheres‘, ‘Will We Remain?‘ with Maor Levi and featuring EL Waves, and most recently, a remix for BONNIE X CLYDE‘s ‘Another You‘.

The name of their collaboration? ‘Futuro‘.

Futuro

This collaboration is almost a perfect blend of both styles. From the very start, you have Giuseppe’s epic melodies, but the analog synth they’re played on sounds quite like ilan. The drop is true to Ottaviani’s Techno sound, right until the second half, where we go from Techno to Progressive Trance. And you know who is behind that bit.

All in all, the tune is a great allrounder, made to be blasted either on lower or higher BPM. It does fit both speeds, if you wish to play it at one of your sets. The merging of their sounds came out to sound much better than imaginated, because it truly feels like a song written by any of the two, but also that none could have done without the other’s part. Genius if you ask me. And perhaps, a future classic. Who knows.

The Norwegian summer solstice festival or “Sankthansaften” is one of the most anticipated dates of the year.  Decorations of birch branches, rowanberries, and bird cherries placed above each cow in the barn. The latter to avoid the trolls and any other supernatural powers from having any power over the cattle. People were also told to make sure nobody took their brooms!

From those moments, the artist was inspired to make one of his best tracks in recent years, ‘Sankthansaften.’

“’Sankthansaften’ is an occurrence you can witness in my hometown of Kirkenes in late June. It is a sunrise and a sunset at the same time; because the sun is so high up on the horizon, it doesn’t manage to set. My daughter took a picture of this magical experience and this became the artwork of the track. It’s a beautiful summery track with a gorgeous guitar, exactly what I hear when I look at my daughter’s picture. I love my home!“

A token of appreciation for the country he calls home. This melody-driven track makes for a breathtaking soundscape that tickles the imagination as both a standalone single and one of the most alluring tracks on Armin van Buuren’s mix compilation, A State Of Trance, Ibiza 2020.

Norwegian Trance and Progressive legend Orjan Nilsen is celebrating his 15 years of an amazing and successful career by pushing his creations beyond their limits. First with the resurrection of his alter ego, Dj Governor, and now exploring the world of progressive with this track.

The trance icon Armin van Buuren debuted his now-famous Rising Star Alias 21 years ago with the classic track ‘Touch me‘. Starting in 2015 with ‘Safe Inside You‘, Rising Star releases vocal tracks every year. Its sound is old school and reminds us of other legends such as Ferry Corsten or Paul van Dyk.

This track follows last year’s release ‘Cosmos‘, with Alexandra Badoi. The trance legend Armin van Buuren honors his roots with another beautiful track under his alter ego. ‘The Voice’ features vocals from Dutch singer and songwriter Cari. Incidentally, one of her biggest dreams as an artists was to work with the king of trance.

This collaboration was first played on ASOT 979 and has quickly gained widespread support from fans. ‘The Voice’ comes with a pure trance vibe, relatively uncharacteristic of Armin’s own productions in recent times.
