Fitness and EDM go well together beautifully. The perfect example is Miami electronic artist Eddy Palermo. Recently, he set a Guinness World Record for the longest DJ set while running. According to WeRaveYou, Palermo is the first person to ever run a marathon while DJing a live set.

A Musically Inclined Marathon

On August 8th, Eddy Palermo brought his DJ equipment to run a 50km race on the Underline. The artist ran a total of 46.7 kilometers in 8 hours on the 10-mile linear park located in Miami. The WeRaveYou publication explained that the park runs from Brickell to Dadeland. Furthemore, Palermo returned to the treadmill the following day to complete the 50km goal. For his mega set, he used a custom-made, self-pushed DJ rig on wheels. The DJ streamed the record attempt alongside AlphaTheta’s OMNIS DUO controller and 8 WAVE EIGHT speakers for the public to jam along.

“That was a wild ride. That was the longest DJ set I’ve ever played, and the 2nd longest run in my life. Doing both at the same time is hard to describe. Not to mention this was peak Miami summer heat and I pushed a 70lb cart the whole time. Sometimes I was deep in the pain cave and would go ‘Oh no, I have to DJ right now’ as the song was ending.”

Palermo’s very own BPMATHON hosted the run. The project seeks to merge endurance fitness and EDM, while encouraging individuals to have more active lives. The event raised money for the Miami-based nonprofit Friends of The Underline. The nonprofit dedicates its time to developing public spaces for people to use for their health.
