Vintage Culture is bringing a little dancehall energy to the dancefloor with his latest release.

The Brazilian producer has teamed up with Kevin Brauer for SELEKTA, a new two-track EP out today, August 28, via Vintage Culture’s own Affairs Music imprint.

Featuring ‘SELEKTA’ with Hackney-born MC Tuggawar alongside second track ‘Yoga’ the project brings reggae and dancehall influences into Vintage Culture and Brauer’s house-driven production.

Turn Up the Bass

The title track immediately establishes the EP’s direction, with Tuggawar delivering its recurring command: “Tell the SELEKTA, turn up the bass.”

Rather than abandoning the house sound Vintage Culture is known for, ‘SELEKTA’ adds a looser reggae-inspired swing, heavy bass and dancehall vocal energy. Tuggawar’s vocals become part of the rhythm itself, moving between commands, phrases and longer lines throughout the track.

The result lands somewhere between house, dancehall and sound-system culture, with enough weight for the club while keeping things playful.

‘Yoga’ continues that approach, pairing reggae and dancehall-influenced elements with a driving electronic foundation. Together, the two tracks feel intentionally connected rather than like two completely different sides of the collaboration.

SELEKTA also brings together three artists with very different musical backgrounds.

Kevin Brauer is perhaps best known for his work as Sevenn, the project behind tracks including ‘BOOM’ with Tiësto and ‘The Wall’ with Alok. His releases under his own name put greater emphasis on detailed club production, rhythm and tension, while Sevenn continues as a separate project.

Tuggawar, meanwhile, was born and raised in Hackney, England, before spending several formative years in Jamaica during the early 2000s. His music has moved between dancehall, hip-hop and drum & bass, influences that come through clearly on the title track.

For Vintage Culture, SELEKTA arrives during another packed year. Following the release of his debut album Promised Land in 2024 and the launch of Affairs in 2025, the Brazilian artist has continued expanding both his own catalog and the creative platform surrounding it.

And after seeing Vintage Culture continue to move between massive festival stages and club-focused releases, it’s always interesting to hear him explore another side of his sound. This time, a little reggae and dancehall flavor fits right in.

SELEKTA is out now via Affairs Music on all major streaming platforms.
