TELYKAST and LORYN are back together on a new single, teaming up once again for ‘Better When You’re Gone,’ a vocal-driven progressive house track out now on Lost In Dreams Records, Insomniac’s label imprint. The Los Angeles-based duo built the song around a breakup narrative — one about coming out the other side of heartbreak stronger, rather than wallowing in it.
LORYN’s vocal performance is the emotional center of the track, sliding between soft, mellifluous verses and full-throated belts that give the production room to breathe before it opens up. TELYKAST layers piano-led passages underneath her voice early on, then builds toward stutterhouse-style climaxes, pulsing vocal chops, and horn melodies stacked in for extra lift. It’s a fairly classic structure for the duo — slow build, emotional payoff — but the songwriting is doing a lot of the heavy lifting here.
This isn’t the first time these two have worked together. ‘Better When You’re Gone’ follows up ‘The Good Part,’ a collaboration the pair released last year that’s since racked up 1.59 million streams and picked up co-signs from Illenium, Frank Walker, Morgan Page, Lucas & Steve, and Martin Garrix. Clearly there was enough chemistry there to justify a second round.
Two Artists on Complementary Paths
TELYKAST has spent the last several years carving out a lane in vocal-led, melodic progressive house, with a stated goal of making “music that makes people feel.” That approach has translated into radio success — the duo has landed multiple No. 1 US Dance Radio records, including ‘Super Powers,’ ‘Unbreakable,’ ‘You Got Me,’ ‘Body To Body,’ and ‘Feel Again.’
LORYN, for her part, is a Vancouver-raised singer-songwriter who’s been splitting time between alt-pop and dance music collaborations. Her catalog includes work with Boston Bun, VisionV, and Warriner, plus ‘Stand By,’ her collaboration with Rudimental that’s pulled in 13.74 million streams and earned spins from BBC Radio 1 and George FM.
“Signing a song to Lost In Dreams / Insomniac has been a dream of ours for a long time so this means a lot to us,” TELYKAST said. “We also couldn’t be more excited to do this with our friend Loryn who has one of the best vocals we’ve ever worked with.”
LORYN described the writing process as a way of revisiting a relationship with distance and perspective. “This song is about trying and trying and trying to make something work, and that bittersweet realisation that sometimes the thing you’re fighting so hard to hold onto is actually the thing you need to let go of,” she said.
TELYKAST will bring the new single into their upcoming live shows, with tour stops scheduled at Pier 17 in San Francisco, Time Nightclub in Costa Mesa, Escape Psycho Circus in San Bernardino, Ember Shores in Cancún, and Lights All Night in Dallas.
