Swedish House Mafia have returned with their latest single, ‘Happiness Is So Sad,’ featuring fellow Swedish artist Lykke Li. Released today, the collaboration brings together two of the country’s biggest musical exports for the first time.
A Reflective New Chapter
‘Happiness Is So Sad’ explores the emotions that exist between joy and heartbreak. The lyrics reflect on how happy memories can become bittersweet with time, creating a track that feels both uplifting and deeply emotional.
Musically, the single blends Swedish House Mafia’s cinematic production with Lykke Li’s unmistakable vocals. The result is a record that builds gradually while maintaining the melodic atmosphere fans have come to expect from the trio.
Already a Standout in Ibiza
Although the single has only just arrived, fans may already recognize it. Swedish House Mafia have featured ‘Happiness Is So Sad’ throughout their summer residency at Ushuaïa Ibiza, where it has become one of the most talked-about moments in their sets.
Earlier this month, Steve Angello also played the track alongside Sebastian Ingrosso during Tomorrowland 2026, giving festivalgoers another early preview before its official release.
Looking Ahead
The release also marks Lykke Li’s first new music since her sixth studio album, The Afterparty, which arrived earlier this year. It follows a busy summer that included performances at Coachella, London’s KOKO, and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens.
For Swedish House Mafia, the single arrives just weeks before two homecoming shows at Gothenburg’s Ullevi Stadium on August 28 and 29. The concerts will be the trio’s biggest headline performances to date. You can see all of their tour dates here.
With ‘Happiness Is So Sad,’ Swedish House Mafia continue to evolve their sound while delivering one of their most emotional collaborations in recent memory.
