Legendary German producer Ronski Speed has delivered yet another extraordinary extension to his catalogue — and this time, it marks a triumphant, long-awaited return to Anjunabeats. With two incredible worlds colliding once again, he has unleashed a double-sided release featuring ‘Nuru Mpya‘ and ‘Melody Beneath‘, and the results are nothing short of spectacular.
Ronski Speed’s trajectory in dance music is staggering. Active for nearly three decades—dating back to his official debut in 1997—he has long been a revered mainstay of the global trance family. While his appearances on Anjunabeats have been few over the years (including classic contributions to Anjunabeats Volume 10 and Anjunabeats Worldwide 02), every single release he touches on the imprint becomes an instant classic. This EP is no exception.
Nuru Mpya / Melody Beneath
The lead track, ‘Nuru Mpya‘, first caught the world’s attention when Above & Beyond featured it on the Anjunabeats Volume 17 compilation. It first caught my attention during one of those seasonal ID drops the Anjunabeats team have been doing via newsletter. I wouldn’t want to speak highly of myself, it’s a bit distasteful, but, after years of being an avid fan of these beats, you simply KNOW when a track is going to be good. You know it by the hairs in your arms rising, you know it by your eyes automatically closing.
For me, it is easily a contender for track of the year. You know those rare records that come along once every so often that completely blow your mind, make you fly, and lock you into a state of pure euphoria? That is ‘Nuru Mpya’. The arrangement carries that unmistakable, golden-era Group Therapy energy from the early 2010s. The break is out of this world, guided by vocals that radiate raw emotion and energy, building into a drop that is utterly magical. It doesn’t rely on excessive, over-the-top aggression; instead, it is cohesive, elegant, and determined to put you into a true trance—the ultimate objective of the genre we love.
The second side, ‘Melody Beneath‘, holds its own brilliantly as a faster, soaring companion piece filled with lush synth pads and atmospheric depth, with proper pad drops and its own magical vocal-led breakdown. It also got its first showcase on the Volume 17 compilation. On any other release, ‘Melody Beneath’ would stand out as a premier standalone single, even if it sits slightly in the shadow of the sheer magic of ‘Nuru Mpya’.
Having been a fan of ‘Pink Skye’ for many many years, Ronski Speed hasn’t lost a touch of magic over the years. If you haven’t listened yet, stop what you’re doing and dive in immediately.
