Dutch producer SAMOH returns in triumph to Charlotte de Witte’s KNTXT with new four-track EP ‘Fractured Society’, this time on KNTXT’s RPM imprint, out now. With a serious theme, yet uncompromisingly club-ready, ‘Fractured Society’ follows the live artist’s successful February dancefloor-weapon KNTXT debut ‘Changing Worlds’ EP.

With this new release, SAMOH’s signature acid, techno, trance driven high-energy sound expresses a darker theme, capturing the consequences of ‘a broken system, shaped by exclusion, injustice, and the constant fight for your place’, translated into raw, driving grooves, darker acid lines and dystopian atmospheres. We caught up with SAMOH to celebrate the new release…

Hey SAMOH, welcome to EDM Tunes! Where are we catching you today?

Hey, thank you for having me. Right now I’m in my studio in Rotterdam, actually in an underground nuclear bunker where I spend most of my time working on music, developing the live set and constantly trying to improve and refine my sound.

A lot of my days are spent experimenting, tweaking details and building new ideas for upcoming releases. It’s a place where I can completely disconnect from the outside world and fully focus on creating.

You’ve just unleashed an epic new EP Fractured Society on RPM by KNTXT. There’s a powerful message behind this release, can you share it with us?

I think the message behind the EP is already reflected in the title itself ‘’Fractured Society’’ . For a long time now, it feels like society has become more and more divided, and over the past years especially it feels like people are moving further apart from each other in every direction.

There’s so much tension in the world right now, wars, conflict, misinformation and constant pressure, and I think all of that subconsciously influenced the atmosphere and emotional weight of the EP. It’s something that affects me deeply, and I tried to translate those feelings into the music.

What made you want to infuse this message in the new tracks? Did it all come together as one natural body of work under this theme, or did it come together a bit more gradually/unplanned?

It actually happened very naturally. I didn’t start the project thinking: “I’m going to make a conceptual EP about this.” It began more from a feeling while experimenting with a vocal sample that immediately gave me this image of a fractured world where people slowly stop knowing what’s true anymore.

The project developed organically from there. Three of the tracks were created around the same period and naturally shared a similar atmosphere and emotional direction, while one of the tracks originally came from a separate project. So it wasn’t intentionally created as one strict conceptual body of work, but in the end everything still connected emotionally and sonically.

Which is your favourite track from the EP to play in your sets if you had to pick, and have you got any special moments you can share from when you’ve played them out?

I think I would still choose Fractured Society itself, although I also really love Excluded because it has a completely different atmosphere and emotional energy. But what I love about Fractured Society is that it carries a bit of that older raw techno feeling, detuned leads, groovy percussion, while the vocal really brings this mystical and emotional layer to the track.

I usually perform live rather than playing the tracks in a traditional DJ set, so I often incorporate elements and vocals from the tracks into the live performance. One of my favorite moments has been seeing the reaction when the vocal suddenly comes in while the groove is already building. You can really feel people letting themselves go and getting pulled into the atmosphere of the track, and those moments are very special to me.

This is your debut on Charlotte de Witte’s RPM label, but a welcome return to the KNTXT family, following your debut Changing Worlds EP back in February. How does it feel returning so soon, must be a buzz having Charlotte supporting your work?

Honestly, it means a lot to me. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share my music with a much bigger audience through RPM and the KNTXT family.

Seeing Charlotte support the tracks in her sets and hearing them played in front of massive crowds is a really crazy feeling and also like a dream becoming true. It gives me a lot of motivation and confidence to keep pushing my sound further and continue evolving artistically. I feel very blessed that people are connecting with the music the way they are.

What else is going on in the SAMOH sphere right now, how’s summer shaping up?

There’s a lot happening at the moment. I’m currently working on a huge amount of unreleased music and I’m also working toward an album planned for later this year. There are also several collaborations with other artists in progress right now, so there’s definitely a lot of exciting things coming.

Besides that I am constantly developing the live set further by integrating new hardware and experimenting with different workflows.

I’m also working on a collaborative improvised live project together with KETTING, which is something I’m really excited about because it pushes me into a much more spontaneous and free-flowing way of performing.

This summer will mainly be focused on balancing performances with finishing music and starting new projects. You’ll definitely be able to catch me at Awakenings and a few other events, but a lot of my focus right now is really on building and shaping the next phase of SAMOH
