Head in the Clouds Festival took place this past weekend in Pasadena, California where thousands gathered at the Rose Bowl Stadium to see one of the biggest gatherings and showcases of Asian talents in the world. 88rising’s incredible roster of talent all gathered to perform over the weekend as well. This year’s festival featured a lot of debut’s including Joji’s DJ alias as Yebi Labs, Jackson Wang’s first performance at the festival and even a dance music tent stage. Here is a recap of all that took place at the fields of Rose Bowl Stadium his past weekend.
Day 1
The talented Korean-American R&B singer named Hojean opened the 88rising Mainstage on day 1 with an impressive performance. He was then followed by Thai rapper called Milli who danced and rapped as the fans cheered him on. Next up on the mainstage was the sadboi master himself, Dabin, as he took the mainstage for a live performance. Representing his Korean heritage, Dabin had his country’s flag draped across his stage set up. The mainstage also saw a performance from one of trail blazers of Asian music in America in Jay Park. Closing out the mainstage of Day 1, Joji and his Yebi Labs crew for his debut DJ performance. He dropped various trap anthems and had the crowd jumping and dancing all throughout his set. He even played a remix of his viral song ‘Glimpse of Us’. The festival even saw a surprise performance from Autograf to close out the brand new dance music tent stage.
Day 2
The second and final day of the festival saw performances from Japanese girl group, Atarashii Gakko!, BIBI, and formerly Day 6 member, eaJ. From the dance music world, Australian sibling DJ duo, Lastlings, performed a special set at the Double Happiness stage. The Club Year of Dance Tent saw a special performance from surprise guest, Manila Killa. One of the spearheads of 88rising, Rich Brian emerged from under the mainstage for his performance as the crowd counted down to the grand finale of the festival. The closing act belonged to one of 88rising’s newest and most popular recruits in Jackson Wang. He danced and sang all throughout his performance which electrified the crowd.
Food
One of the most exciting components of Head in the Clouds Festival has always been the food offerings at the event. This year’s festival featured servings from Bobaful, Luckyball Korean BBQ, Shake Ramen and of course everyone’s favorite, Bang Bang Noodles. There were alcoholic bubble tea options which were infused with Black Label, a must try! If you are to attend any upcoming Head in the Clouds festivals, it is definitely worth planning out which delectable food stands you’d like to try out.
Conclusion
Having attended this festival in the past, Head in the Clouds just seems to get better by the year. It was incredible to see the new addition of the Club Year of Dance Tent to highlight Asian DJs. If you were not there at this year’s festival, it is definitely worth looking into for next year’s event as this is truly a one of a kind music festival celebrating the Asian culture.
