Martin Garrix Doesn’t Care For DJMag Top 100 DJ Rankings

Less than one week ahead of the official ceremony, Martin Garrix shared his view on the DJMag’s Top 100 poll in a Dutch interview.

The currently-ranked #1 DJ openly explains that the ranking does not mean much to him. Martin detailed how absurd the poll can be, mentioning his position compared to Tiësto for example:

“I really don’t care, the so-called world ranking. I don’t need a list to do what I like. I am at 1, yes. And Tiësto is very many places below me. That doesn’t make sense, does it? I started playing music through him. I am not a better DJ than him, maybe now I just have a bit more hype around me. By the way, there are also people in that list from whom I have never heard of, so I have my doubts about the creation”

Garrix continues explaining how the ranking is important for DJs in order to be recognized, especially for bookings in Asia.

“In any case, I have never made a call to vote for me and I will never do so. Whether that list should be abolished? I can try, but it will continue. Particularly in Asia, great importance is attached to it. But the only thing that really matters is how many tickets you sell and whether you make people happy.”

Martin Garrix has been the number 1 DJ on the DJMag Top 100 for the last three years. Will this change in 2019? We will know for sure next weekend. This year’s ceremony will take place on Saturday, October 19th during Amsterdam Music Festival.
