This years Eurovision Song Contest is quickly approaching and artist announcements are now underway. If you’re unfamiliar with the Eurovision Song contest, here’s a quick overview of how the competition works. Participating countries will nominate an artist who will later submit an original song that will be performed live. Lastly, a voting process will occur, concluding with one winner for the contest. Imagine the pressure as a solo artist representing your country with a single song!
None other than Darude, aka Ville Virtanen, aka the creator of the masterpiece Sandstorm, has been chosen to represent his home country of Finland. On Facebook, Darude stated he was a bit scared when they first asked him to join the competition but is honored to be part of such an incredible experience. We’re sure with his talent, he has a great chance to bring home first place with his original creation.
Darude’s iconic Sandstorm was released in 1999 and became an instant hit in the music world. The music video on YouTube has reached nearly 144 million views to date and has no signs of slowing down. Since then, Darude has been playing at countless clubs and festivals around the world and released an album back in 2015 named Moments. While it’s unfortunate Darude can’t submit Sandstorm for the contest, maybe he’ll create another hit to take home the gold. Who do you think has a chance of winning this year and who’s representing your home country?
