Many of us remember the shockwaves the world felt after Avicii took his life in April. The entire world was in disbelief with several musicians including Tiësto, Rita Ora, Kygo and more playing tribute to the legacy he left behind. Now, the superstar DJ was finally laid to rest this past Friday in a private ceremony amongst friends and family.
Not much is known of Avicii’s funeral as his family announced it would be private. According to his press contact Ebba Lindqvist,”It was a funeral ceremony with the family and the closest friends“. Foreign Press has revealed he was buried at Skogskyrkogården cemetery in Stockholm, Sweden.
It was on April 20 when Avicii, whose real name was Tim Bergling, commited suicide by cutting himself with a broken wine bottle. He was found dead in a hotel in Muscat, Oman. His death, along with the recent suicides of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain have sparked attention on mental health awareness and depression amongst the public.
His family stated,
“He struggled with thoughts on meaning, life, happiness. Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions. He wanted to find peace.”
Rest in peace Avicii. You will be greatly missed.
