Kendrick Lamar Wins 2018 Pulitzer Prize in Music

The accomplishments just continue to accumulate for Kendrick Lamar. The rapper has surely been keeping busy, earning award after award. Most recently, he produced the soundtrack for the Marvel hit, Black Panther, and has been on tour performing various songs from his album “DAMN.“. It’s no surprise the album has another accolade to add to it’s various already received.

Just recently it was announced that Kendrick Lamar’s fourth studio album “DAMN.” has been awarded the 2018 Pulitzer Prize in Music. Making it even more special, the project is the first non-classical or jazz work to win the award. The Pulitzer board stated that the album is a work that captures the complexity of African-American life.

Over the years, Lamar has been praised and lauded for the diversity in his music. His deep lyrical content, remarkable live performances, and his profound mix of hip-hop, spoken word, jazz, soul, funk, poetry and African sounds are unlike any modern day rapper.

His three albums “good kid, m.A.A.d city,” ″To Pimp a Butterfly” and “DAMN.” have all gone on to become works of art. The way Lamar wrote about black culture, street life, police brutality, perseverance, survival and self-worth have consistently caught the eye and ear of all types of listeners.

His powerful raps have allowed him to become the voice of the generation. This has easily propelled him as one of the leaders in hip-hop, even crossing over to multiple audiences outside of rap as well.
