Eight-Foot Shark Spotted at Ibiza This Past Weekend

Blue Shark in Ibiza

Holiday beach goers were surprised and thrown into panic mode this past weekend when an eight-foot shark was spotted along the shore of Playa d’en Bossa. Playa d’en Bossa is home to famous clubs such as Ushaïa and. The shark that was spotted was a blue shark which is the most common shark species in the Mediterranean.

Last month a blue shark attacked one 82-year-old beach goer who managed to escape with only a two-inch wound on his hand. This time the shark did not cause any harm but it scared resort attendees and people on holiday as it came close to shore this past Saturday. The Magaluf beach was also closed Sunday after a shark, that resembled the one seen before, was spotted. A wounded blue shark was captured Sunday but it was not determined to be the same one seen previously.

A blue shark was also responsible for the attack on a 40-year-old man’s hand last July in Elche’s Arenales del Sol beach.

Shark attacks are rare in Ibiza but swimmers are advised to be cautious of their surroundings while enjoying the destination.
