When you think of the Miami club scene, sure Liv and Story jump to mind but outlasting them all is Space. Space might not have the glitz and glamour of South Beach, but it has been the pulsating heartbeat of Miami nightlife for years. After slumping along for quite some time, Space Miami has new owners with new plans for the venue. The new owners are Ill Points‘ David Sinopoli, Link’s David Denese, and Miami Rebel’s Coloma Kaboomsky.
Fans of the underground should already be excited as Ill Points Music Festival has gained quite a following in Miami. Link and Miami Rebels are also well known in the underground scene, working mostly at Treehouse, Story, and Trade. The plan to work together came after this year’s Ill Points Festival, noticing the sagging performance of Space while E11even and Heart were thriving.
The new owners have plans to revitalize the space to fill in the hole left by the loss of Grand Central. The downstairs area will be redesigned into a concert space with a stage up front, capable of hosting bands and electronic acts. The plans are for 4 very distinct and unique rooms with completely different vibes. The famed Terrace will be redecorated with natural elements like plants, but the owners have no plans to move the Terrace away from its storied past as a place where the hardcore can dance in the following afternoon.
They want areas of Space where the intensity is taken away, with high end drinks and better security. The team has already tested the waters, running an event on December 3 during Art Basel. The team is also running the big NYE Jamie Jones event and has plans for a fun packed Miami Music Week.
“The first thing we did after signing the lease was to call a couple agents that are good friends to tell them what happened, and bookings haven’t been a problem,”
It appears that the underground will be coming back in a big way, taking the reigns of one of Miami’s largest and most well known nightclubs. There’s a lot to be excited about.
