Spotify Is Ready for Your DJ Mixes and Unofficial Remixes

Is Spotify trying to take on Soundcloud? Well, with this move, it might be. Back in March, Dubset, a digital content distributor that gives streaming platforms the ability to legally host unlicensed mashups, mixes and remixes, partnered with Apple Music – and now they’ve linked up with Spotify as well. This deal ultimately allows DJs to upload and stream their original track mixes and long-mixes, creating a new source of venue for both the DJs creating the mixes and the artists whose recordings are sampled.

“This is a major milestone for DJs and music fans all over the world. Our technology platform makes it possible for us to identify and pay rights holders in DJ mixes, making this enormously popular music genre available on the world’s most popular streaming service for the very first time,” said Dubset CEO Steven Write. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with the team at Spotify to deliver this content to music fans all over the world.”

By reaching out to the homegrown artist community that puts out their own mixes, edits, bootlegs, mashups and more on the Internet via sites like Soundcloud and Mixcloud, Spotify is able to continually grow more appealing for all aspects of streaming.

“Our number one job at Spotify is to deliver great music to fans whenever and wherever they want to listen to it,” Spotify’s Stefan Blom said. “This deal with Dubset enables us to serve fans of dance music with the mixes they crave while ensuring that artists, labels and publishers get paid fairly. It’s a great day for music fans all over the world.”
