Gorillaz Confirm Advent of First Album in Five Years

The time where the rumor mill stops and the facts become reality have finally come to the present. Gorillaz co-creator Damon Albarn has finally announced that a new album from the virtual band will commence recording in September during an interview with ABC News. Following a release of new artwork by illustrator and the other founding member Jamie Hewlett back in January, it seems that all the pieces are finally coming together.

While about to embark on Blur’s first Australian tour in 18 years and hot off the heels of their 8th studio album The Magic Whip, their first in 12 years and their 8th studio album Albarn had a few things to say about the impending production of the latest Gorillaz’ offering:

“I’ve just been really, really busy so I haven’t had a chance…”

“I’d love to just get back in to that routine of being at home and coming to the studio five days a week.”

I know that myself along with others from the Gorillaz loyal fan base are rejoicing in this news and that the album, however long it takes, will be the first since 2011 when The Fall was released.
