Ultra Music, one of the premier record labels in dance music, is about to reach a huge milestone, their 20th year anniversary. 20 years marks a tremendous stretch of dance music history that Ultra has played a role in, as dance music was still in its nascency in 1995. Donna Summers’ track “Melody of Love” sat atop Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play chart at this time in 1995 and the number of superstar dance music producers that you knew by name could be counted on one hand.
To commemorate their 20th anniversary, Ultra Music is releasing the Ultra Dance 16 compilation album, which serves as a recap for some of the biggest and best Ultra Music releases from 2014. The compilation album features the likes of marquee Ultra artists like Calvin Harris, deadmau5, and Hardwell, while also featuring newcomers to the Ultra Music family like Kygo, Oliver Heldens, and Robin Schulz.
Ultra Dance 16 marks an important milestone for Ultra Music, as compilation albums helped Ultra Music make a name for itself in the early 2000s. More recently, compilation albums have done well for Ultra Music too, as Ultra Dance 15 has sold over 25,000 copies already, with over 61% of them being physical sales. The sales numbers for Ultra Dance 15 are a reminder of the old days in dance music, when compilation albums were crucial for helping artists find new tracks.
Ultra Dance 16 is set to be released on February 24th, and can be pre-ordered now at Target or Best Buy.
