Hans Zimmer Explains His Love & Passion For Dance Music

Hans Zimmer Explains His Connection to EDM
Any film buff could easily rattle off a handful of chart-topping cinematic features that Hans Zimmer has scored. From blockbusters such as ‘The Dark Knight’ to ‘Inception’, the composer and music producer boasts an impressive track record and attests many of his cornerstone tools to be the same as some of the gadgets our favorite dance music acts have been using for years. He says:

“The weird thing is all the DJs and all the electronic guys sort of think I’m still relevant because I am part of that world, and I can talk oscillators and filters and frequency shifters and stuff like that…In the ’70s I started making music with computers because I thought, ‘Wow, great, you can misappropriate these things which are designed for accountancy and you can actually go and make weird noises with them.”

While his orchestral scores, such as ‘Gladiator’ and ‘The Lion King’, may seem completely absent of electronic composition, Zimmerman has been using computers for ages. You’d be surprised to hear that the captivating synths erupting from the IMAX theaters are the same synths Disclosure have been rocking dance floors with.
