HARD Events Founder Planning All-Female EDM Show in 2014

Take a look out into any EDM crowd these days, and you’ll be hard pressed to decipher whether the audience leans more prominently male or female. The same can’t be said about the acts behind the decks, and HARD Events founder & CEO Gary Richards knows that. In a recent interview with WildSpice Magazine, he acknowledged that only 8% of acts on the HARD roster between 2008 and 2013 consisted of female performers.

As he understands, girls are the backbone of almost any good party, so it’s a bit bizarre to expect them in the audience without offering them equal representation on stage. His solution? An all-female lineup. “I have a concept for a show that’s all girl performers… It’s not a 70,000 person event. But I do see more females coming up and… I’m definitely gonna do it 2014,” Richards said in the interview.

The HARD CEO recognizes the logistical, promotional and financial challenges of putting on such an event, but seems less concerned with raking in the money and more excited about doing something unique. It’s not intended to be a gimmick; rather, he wants to provide spotlight performance time to deserving female acts. “To me,” he continues, “I always think everything’s better with girls…there’s tons of cool female artists, I wish there were more.”
