Some really great progressive house has been getting released as of late that has me extremely excited. In a time when the Beatport Top 10 is a jumble of alike sounding formulas, it’s sometimes easy to overlook the tracks that are pure gems. Since release (and massive success) of his single with Sarah Howells “Seeing Stars,” First State‘s fans have been left craving more of that feel-good emotional (yet almost-haunting) progressive house style. My introduction to “Battle Of Hearts” was on First State’s PODcast “Crossroads“ and I was instantaneously drawn in (and raving like a fool in my office chair).
“Battle Of Hearts” utilizes a slight build up to shift the initial focus onto Fenja‘s hypnotic vocal style. The mellow airy vocals lead you right into a progression of hands-up feel-good drum patterns that culminate in a ludicrously massive melodic explosion of endorphins and seratonin (and hands in the air, wherever you are). As with any prog track worth its weight, First State takes you on more than one emotional roller coaster throughout the course of the track. I don’t want to spoil the journey…so how about you just take a listen? I think I ended somewhere up in the stratosphere, though.
