Yeah, you read that right. Time does fly, doesn’t it? 2014 was a year in which we got some timeless gems in the EDM industry, we’re talking Galantis‘ ‘Runaway (U & I)‘, Porter Robinson‘s ‘Sad Machine‘, ZHU‘s ‘Faded‘, and the summer-scented mega collaboration between Sander van Doorn, Martin Garrix, DVBBS, and Aleesia, ‘Gold Skies‘. Also from 2014, is Seattle duo ODESZA‘s second album, In Return.

In Return was not only a collection of thirteen of the best pieces of the duo, but also home to ‘It’s Only‘, a heartwarming track featuring the vocals of Zyra. This one has seen a handful of revisions and remixes since its release, including a remix by a younger RÜFÜS DU SOL, and even a very own ODESZA VIP revision.

To the countless remixes already available for ‘It’s Only’, we add today the 2023 touch of an artist who’s taken the world by storm, and all without revealing its face. Enter Modapit.

Modapit: The Electronic Sensation Of 2023

We don’t know where he came from, nor where he’s headed, but we do know he’s doing so in style. January would see him salute the world under a dark veil with his debut track ‘Dancing‘. Later on, we’d get to hear from him in the form of an entire album, titled Devotion. Just a while ago, he followed the album with an excellent single, ‘Time To Run‘. And now, he gets to remix one of last decade’s core EDM tracks. Talk about growth.

But Modapit’s career has not been exclusively behind closed doors in his studio: he’s graced entire crowds with performances that include Imagine, and EDC Las Vegas. Couldn’t it just have been luck, you may ask? Well, feel free to bin that idea when you add to the equation the fact that he’s already booked to play Freaky Deaky, Countdown NYE, and EDC Orlando. He’s everywhere, and his music speaks for himself, just like he’s hoped for in past thoughts.

‘It’s Only (Modapit Remix)’

The artist’s tasty remix has come out today via Thrive Music, while licensed through Foreign Family Collective. “For me, being able to do this remix is an absolute dream come true“, confesses Modapit. “ODESZA is an artist that I draw a ton of inspiration from when I am thinking about my own project and creative directions. Every time I see them live, I get invigorated to take my own music to the next level”.

Modapit’s rendition of ‘It’s Only’ retains the melodic aspect, still coming as a caress to the feels when the intro goes away. Zyra’s soft vocals go hand in hand with the arpeggiated bells. Slowly we start to hear his own elements come to play, like the sustained trumpet-like bass.

The buildup prepares you and gets your hands high in the air, and then… silence. Enjoy the journey up, with a couple of Synthwave-resembling instruments, and then, boom, there’s the drop. Powerful, punchy, and melodic, perfect for a calmer drop at a big festival. I really enjoy the direction of the remix, bringing a tough four-on-the-floor beat, yet without forgetting the warm roots of the ODESZA hit, born almost an entire decade ago.

Some fans say Lane 8’s sound pays homage to the old sounds of Deadmau5, but with a more relaxed approach and more gentle drops. It makes sense that he would be on the rise in a world of people who are seeking the chill dance vibe more and more. 

A fun fact about Lane 8 is where he got the name from. The music producer was a competitive swimmer before he got into music production. In swimming, Lane 8 is the slow lane. The more you know right?

“The first song off of REDUX EP 04 ‘Love Like That’ out THIS FRIDAY!!!” Kaskade wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.

From listening to the 35-second lyric video, it’s clear that the EP will indeed fall in line with the first three in his REDUX series. The ‘Love Like That’ female vocals are similar to Kaskade’s trademark tracks, including his 2008 hit ‘I Remember.’

Kaskade shared the ‘Love Like That’ clip on Valentine’s Day. In the video, he appears to say “I love you” and draws a heart.

‘REDUX 04’ fittingly drops on 04/04. 

‘REDUX 04’ Tour

Kaskade is doing a four-show mini tour for his new EP. Tickets went on sale in early February and all shows sold out immediately. 

The tour kicks off on Thursday at Club Space in Miami. Kaskade will also play at Petco Park in San Diego on the release day, April 4. 

“The last time I played REDUX in San Diego was so mind blowing I knew I needed to bring 004 there,” Kaskade posted on Facebook last month. 

The third show will take place at Meow Wolf, an interactive art venue in Santa Fe. Kaskade will close out the tour on May 30 at the Brooklyn Mirage in New York.

“#REDUX 004 at the Brooklyn Mirage is going to be one of those nights we only speak about in whispers,” Kaskade wrote in another Facebook post last month.

For Shaq, there is never enough fire in his sets; that said, he has reached out to one of his biggest musical inspirations for some added assistance. In a slight fan-girl moment, the seven foot one icon reached out to Svdden Death to express his love for the burgeoning dubstep influenced production style riddim. To everyone’s surprise, the dubstep community accepted the lovable giant and the bound between the two artists were immediately formed.

Svdden Death seemed overjoyed to hear from the incredible super-fan. He asked DJ Diesel to send him an email so that he could share more tracks with him, leaving fans wondering if there is a possibility of a collaboration in the works.

Only time will tell, but in the meantime, we are ecstatic that the EDM community is still proving to be so PLUR (peace, love, unity and respect) as even the most unexpected of people are coming together. We can’t wait to hear some of the new Svdden Death that will undoubtedly make its way into DJ Diesel’s sets in the near future.

The hush relating to the album seems to be the area 51 of the electronic dance music scene. At the moment, we can only assume that the American producer’s latest tracks, ‘I Wanna Know‘, ‘Era‘, and ‘Stay For It‘, will be featured on the album; however, none of his reps have confirmed that this is the case.

Due to their impressive dedication and following of RL Grime, they have discovered that a new ID that the trap King himself played in a recent set could, in fact, become the next forthcoming single on NOVA.

It has been reported that the fresh ID was debuted during his set at Miami’s Ultra Music Festival and then played again this past weekend at San Diego’s LED. Although there has been some speculation that the vocals are sung by Miguel, a different reddit thread has indicated that the vocals are likely Jeremih or Tory Lanez. However, Grime has previously discussed that a second collab with Miguel is in the works and will be featured on the album.
