On January 31, 2025, Igloofest Montreal transformed the Old Port into a pulsating winter wonderland, headlined by the legendary Steve Angello. Despite the biting cold, with temperatures dipping to -10°C, the energy was electric as fans gathered to witness a night of unforgettable performances.

Before Angello, the evening kicked off at 7:30 PM on the Sapporo Stage with a dynamic set by Laura Scavo, setting an energetic tone for the night. Following her, KILIMANJARO took over at 9:00 PM, delivering a performance that seamlessly blended deep basslines with melodic interludes, captivating the audience.

At 10:30 PM, the crowd’s anticipation peaked as Steve Angello, a founding member of the Swedish House Mafia, took the stage. Right from the first drop, he immediately had the audience in his grasp. His set was a masterful journey through progressive house, featuring both his classic hits and new tracks that showcased his evolving sound. The synergy between Angello and the crowd was palpable, each track building upon the last, creating waves of euphoria that rippled through the masses. The last 30 minutes of the set were giving chills to all attendees who has listened to the trio since the beginning. For Montrealers, this was a very unique chance to witness live some the greatest songs the EDM scene has ever see.

In a statement, Angello described how this album is simply his artistic career in its purest form:

“HUMAN is a concept album that I love. No compromise, unfiltered, and straight to the point. It was rewarding to be able to express this piece of me. After months of disconnect I felt I had to change the way I made music, change the way I thought of music and the way I felt about music. A year ago, Steve lost his passion for his art and music career, motivating him to move back to his home city of Stockholm, Sweden. But after experiencing a spiritual awakening within a church, he was able to find peace within himself.

His new album, Human, is the result of this life-changing event that Angello personally experienced. Featuring 21 tracks, it shows the vast sound and dynamism that the Grammy-nominated producer is capable of.

In chronological order, the series within the album tells the story of Angello’s life: Genesis, Inferno and Paradiso. Specifically designed to be unconventional, this album is certainly something that many people will find intriguing.

However, the album’s current single, “Nothing Scares Me Anymore“, has quite the cool story behind it. The track was first written with vocals by The Killers. Additionally, during an interview with Dance-Charts, Steve Angello revealed, “We’ve done some songs together that will be on the band’s upcoming album”. Whoa! Not only do we get a new album from Steve Angello, but this also means The Killers have a new album in the works with Angello’s touch and sound on a few of the songs.

Released on Size Records, “Nothing Scares Me Anymore” is beautifully crafted with the vocals by Grammy Award-winning musician Sam Martin. Martin’s voice blends perfectly with Steve’s dark production. As the clock ticks and violin strings are plucked, Martin’s melody drops in and delivers a heavenly feel. The progression of this track is simply incredible and delivers an almost dark feel that is masked into a feel good drop of sound.

Featuring the soulful vocals of RKCB, the two stripped the original track down to its bones and rebuilt it around a groovy and downtempo frame complete with chopped vocals and buttery pads. We all know Steve Aoki and his wild ways on stage. Well back in 2012, he was getting wild again in San Diego at one of his shows at the Hard Rock Cafe. His usual stunt is taking a cake an throwing it at the crowd, but on this day he wanted to do something else. He wanted to crowd surf, so they threw an inflatable rubber raft into the crowd and Aoki jumped off the top of a speaker onto it.

It was reported that at this show, when Aoki jumped an landed on the rubber raft, someone was injured. Brittany Hickman was knocked unconscious and left at risk of paralysis. She was in the hospital for several days with a broken neck and was off work due to injury for 2 months.

Hickman’s lawyer is saying that Hard Rock should have taken measures to protect attendees safety, and they should be liable for paying any future medical costs. Jeremiah Lowe believes the venue should have known that Aoki would attempt the stunt and taken the necessary precautions. He told reporters that, “It’s only a matter of time before somebody else gets hurt or killed.”

Whether it is in the form of bringing half a million people to the same place for a festival, or uniting the strength of the entire online community to support the victims of an enormous tragedy, the influence of the music and the artists who create it is unprecedented. Nothing exemplifies this more than the communities reaction to the recent and horrifying events that took place early Sunday morning at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando.

Posts from hundreds of the most influential artists started pouring in after the tragedy, with one of the most moving by the industry powerhouse, Diplo. While born in Mississippi, he grew up mostly in South Florida and the Orlando club scene was where he was first exposed to dance music, and provided the inspiration that launched his massively successful career as a producer.
