French melodic house talent Massane returns with a fresh two-track release, delivering an emotional yet dynamic listening experience on his new Nothing To Lose EP. Featuring collaborations with Otherwish and QRION, the project highlights both the producer’s atmospheric depth and his ability to shift into more energetic territory.

Opening the EP, “Nothing To Lose” with Otherwish leans into a more immersive and cinematic sound. The track begins with a soft, atmospheric synth build that immediately sets a reflective tone. As it progresses, delicate vocals begin to emerge, layered with light, twinkling elements that give the track a weightless, almost floating quality. The energy gradually rises without ever feeling overwhelming, allowing each sound to breathe. Just as it reaches its peak, the track gently pulls back, creating a full-circle moment that feels both uplifting and introspective.

“Nothing To Lose” sees Massane collaborate with Otherwish on an atmospheric track.

On the flip side, “Go On” with QRION shifts gears into a brighter and more rhythm-driven space. The track opens with a lighter, almost trance-inspired feel, driven by lively percussion and subtle melodic textures. A brief pause builds anticipation before it drops into a deeper, bass-heavy section that adds contrast and impact. Vocals weave in and out, guiding the listener through the track’s evolving structure. The energy dips and rises throughout, keeping the momentum engaging without losing its melodic core.

ID 5 from the Fall 2025 Mixtape—‘Go On’—is out now, marking a powerful collaboration between Massane and Qrion on This Never Happened and welcoming back Qrion to the label. ‘Go On’ also opens Massane’s upcoming EP Visage 10, a milestone that highlights how far the Visage project has evolved. Massane launched the series in 2020 as a space to explore honest and experimental sound design, and reaching its tenth chapter shows the project’s remarkable growth. His sound remains instantly recognizable, yet it now carries greater depth, polish, and confidence, reflecting a creative journey that continues to advance without losing its original identity.

‘Go On’

‘Go On’ opens with a warm, steady kick. The groove feels smooth but grounded. Loose, shuffling hi‑hats and a soft rimshot move around it. Massane’s touch shows in the clean guitar line, washed in delay and reverb. Layered underneath is a wide, swelling synth pad that forms a lush, dreamy bed. It expands the space and sets the track’s tone. Qrion adds her magic in the details. The chopped vocal ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ drift through the mix. Tiny glitchy sparks dance on top and keep the rhythm alive. In the breakdown, the drums slip away. A filtered lead slowly opens. Both styles merge as the groove returns, choosing emotion over impact.

The track shines on the melodic side. You can feel it land in a room instantly. It gives space to breathe and build. The crowd settles into the moment before everything locks back in. It’s a track that feels as good to play as it does to hear. The emotion leads. The energy follows. No big drop needed.

Massane

Massane has built a strong presence on This Never Happened. He blends melody, emotion, and texture in a way that feels unmistakably his. Tracks like ‘Wildflower,’ ‘Another Dawn,’ ‘No Return,’ and ‘5am’ helped him reach a wider audience. His Visage series shows how much his sound has grown while staying true to its core. He keeps pushing forward with every release, and fans connect with the honesty and depth in his music

Qrion

Momi is back with yet another belter from her aesthetic kitchen.

One of our favourite House and Deep House queens, Qrion, is back today, with quite the flex. The artist, who’s been riding the wave of her recent Anjunadeep album We Are Always Under The Same Sky and opened several dancefloors for Above & Beyond on their album tour, is now back to putting out her own music, on no other label than the prestigious Global Underground.

The iconic brand and record label has handed Momi a signing for her latest single, ‘Sounds Good’, a track she comments has a lot of meaning for her, because of the place in time that it’s rooted in: her childhood.

‘Sounds Good’

Back when we interviewed Qrion earlier this year, she told us she often felt inspired by her past to make music. In the memories, and in the pain that comes with remembering a time she lost her father and was lost in the world, she finds a bittersweet note that she’s able to translate into music. This time, it’s the heavy use of the piano that takes her back to her childhood years.

Anjunadeep disembarked in the far continent for the first time ever — and we were a part of it all.

The Anjuna family of labels is a group that has been a pioneer of the genres they harvest for years on end. While Anjunabeats, the main division, rocked the charts during the 2000s, its little brother Anjunadeep became an absolute sensation towards the end of the 2010s, bringing talents such as Lane 8, Ben Böhmer, Tinlicker and Yotto to the public eye. You could argue they’re pretty good at discovering the legends of the succeeding 10 years.

And with their own Anjunadeep Open Air series debuting in a handful of destinations across the seven seas, we were all in when they announced they’d be bringing the experience to South America — Lima and Santiago. I just so happen to be based in the latter capital, so it was a no-brainer to attend. And here’s what I have to say. Beware, it’s a lot. A good lot, though!

Arriving

Let me begin this by saying, this was my first-ever official Anjuna-branded party. Ever. So the stakes were high, and I have to spoil it, it didn’t disappoint at all. I Ubered to the place and arrived bang on time thankfully, a few minutes before the first act walked into the booth — my buddy Paul Arcane. The venue took me by surprise. I knew the park pretty well up to that point, but I’d never been in that corner of it, and its beauty caught me off guard.

I was so lost in the high of the Anjuna atmosphere paired with the scenery that I even missed a lagoon in its perimeter. It was all great, they had stands for everything from spirits to electrolytes. I even clocked a stand for my favourite vermouth, though I’d never go on to buy me a cup, instead doing beer all afternoon.

Daytime Bliss

The crowd here was elite. Proper Anjuna. Credit: Victor Norambuena

First up on the decks was Paul Arcane, and I must say, Anjuna’s choice as the warm-up act was spot on. Not because I’m a mate of his, I’m being 100%, full-on objective critique here. His set was a RIDE, going between Organic and Progressive, but in a nonlinear fashion, blending both at different times of the 2-hour set he played. The way he’d climb to a more chilled Progressive only to drop back down to a more punchy Organic, all the while keeping a proper coherence, he crushed it.

I shared the whole day with a bunch of Argentinians I’d met through Facebook. Seeing their flag waving amidst the crowd made me feel right at home. They had come early to see Ezequiel Arias, and I convinced them to arrive a tad earlier to root for Paul too, and so we all did. It was lovely, it was all Anjuna in the early hours of the party: youngsters, adults, even kids with their parents having a picnic. The atmosphere was lovely. Paul closed with a remix of that ‘Now We Are Free’ track, proper goosebumps, singalong moment.

That’s me! Credit: Victor Norambuena

The transition to Ezequiel Arias kept the energy ticking along nicely, while his dense and distinctive Progressive sound transported me to my favourite country, Argentina. His sound is so Argentinian Prog. You can hear it. Once you recognise their current, you can’t avoid spotting the sound, that four-on-the-floor Argentines do that just makes you want to move. Fittingly, as life would have it, I bumped into more Argentinians during this time. A good portion of them flew over to attend the Anjuna festival, which this time didn’t stop down in the Land of Tango.

As Arias’ set drew to a close, I wondered if Qrion was at the venue already, and like reading my mind, she popped from behind the booth while Eze was closing his set. I went for a quick water checkpoint to down the beer I’d had, and winged it back into the crowd, eager for my first Qrion set. She did phenomenally.

Momi kicked things off with a touch of Progressive, not as purist as proper Argentine Progressive, instead it was more of a hybrid with House influences. And then she went full-on House. Not your standard cheesy House from fashion runways though, Anjuna-tinted House with its own identity. She dropped a remix of ‘Bailando‘ that I STILL can’t get out of my head. I’ve attached it to your right so you too can help yourself. Q also dropped a remix of ‘Silence’, proper goosebump moment, alongside tracks from her latest album, We Are Always Under The Same Sky. I never imagined those laidback tracks would translate SO WELL into the dancefloor. They’re proper sleepers.

As the minutes went by, Momi had the pleasure of pairing that day’s sunset, and the timing was spot on, pure magic. The crowd at that point was lovely, a proper mix of families, respect, and plenty of Anjuna energy.

Nighttime

As night fell, more and more ravers started to arrive, a more mixed bunch and, I must say, less focused on the music. The dancefloor got packed to the point where moving became a proper mission. My mates and I were in the geographical middle of the dancefloor, and I couldn’t dance properly anymore. So I decided to retreat to the VIP area, enjoying the music from a slightly more distant vantage point. And I was lucky to do so, because I ran into Marsh back there.

I was chatting with Paul and his family who’d come to see him play, and then somehow Tom spawned. A distant nod turned into a friendly chat, apparently he recognised me from the times I saw him in Buenos Aires. Such a cool lad. We all enjoyed a longish chat backstage plus nonalcoholic beer and water, while Dosem was tearing up the dancefloor with his iconic Housy beats. It was a very interesting experience, it was very Anjuna to be surrounded by so much Anjuna at one time, surreal even, given the low frequency of label-related parties we often have in South America.

Marsh.

Finally, it was time for Tom to rock. Marsh’s set was, for me, the second-best of the night, only dethroned by Paul Arcane’s brilliance. Marsh never, ever disappoints, but Paul was such a great act that I have to hand him the medal this time. Tom… Tom played perfectly in his 90-minute bracket.

All the tracks I was hoping for were there, it truly felt like listening to my Spotify picks with perfect transitions in between. His selection was spot on, from his chilled House to ‘Rabbit Hole’, his remix of Bedrock’s ‘Heaven Scent’, his flip on ‘Sirens Of The Sea’, which he immediately followed with the impeccable Antrim remix of Yotto’s ‘Silhouette’. Do you ever get to a point at a show in which you shed tears? This was the point for me. Sirens to Silhouette was just too much. I was already feeling pretty jelly-hearted before because he’d played ‘Sun In Your Eyes’ a bit back. Anjuna, if you’re reading, please release that Antrim remix. I’m begging you. On my knees.

Final Words

The night could’ve gone on for hours, and no one would’ve complained. It was an incredible day, with incredible artists of the highest calibre, a beautiful place and lovely weather. My only but is the crowd, though you can’t do much about it, my purist self LOVED the daytime crowd, so the bar was high for the nighttime fellas. In my case, I was lucky enough to have an area to chill out and basically zone out listening to the music that has been marking my life for an entire decade, so I can’t complain.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible, and thank you so much to all the artists and their teams for showing up just after playing Lima, on little to no sleep, yet still putting on a smile and sharing the love only they know how to deliver. Thanks, Paul, Eze, Momi, Marc, and Tom. You all rock. Oh, and needless to say: we’re already counting down the days for your return.

We recently sat down with one of Anjunadeep’s finest for a lovely interview.

There’s not much I haven’t said on the internet about Qrion. If you’ve been a follower of Anjunadeep at any time in the past, say, six years at least, you already know who I’m talking about. From the very start, the Japan-born US-based artist took listeners and curious minds alike by storm with her solid Deep House sound and the ability to take you on sonic voyages with only a few elements per track.

Momi recently shared her sophomore artist album, We Are Always Under The Same Sky, a brave and intimate work, a compilation of tracks all born from the same place: self-forgiveness and growth. Stemming from unpleasant memories from his father’s passing years ago, Qrion built an album that was, in a way, meant to heal her first, accepting past mistakes and embracing the present self. You can read more about the album in our review from January.

If you know me, you know I’m all for music with a purpose and music with a soul. Yes, plain tracks can be nice, but if there’s no deeper meaning underlying them, I’m most definitely not interested. With Momi’s album being precisely the opposite, needless to say we were stoked to have her over for a chat. And we did.

And during our conversation (cleverly disguised as an interview), we got to learn so much about everything surrounding the album, her first steps in music, how moving away from Japan marked her journey and in turn her sound, lessons she’s learnt by being a musician, being vulnerable and not fearing to share sensitive parts of oneself, and so much more. Read on as we dive deep into the life and art of Qrion.

The Interview

(Please note, the bolded text represents a question, while the paragraph(s) following it represent Qrion’s answers.)

Thank you so much for coming. Well, at this point, we’re a bit late to the party, but huge congratulations on the release of the album, We’re Always Under The Same Sky.

Thank you!

How has the reception been up to this point? Do you see people enjoying the tracks on the dancefloor? Have you had stories, perhaps shared with you, thanks to the tracks?

Yeah, this weekend is my last show from the album tour. But for these past three months, I could tell people were excited to hear the album’s songs more than the other ones, because when I play whichever song from the album, I could see the crowds cheering me up, so I could tell they were enjoying it. They seem to have attended the shows for those songs and that makes me feel really nice.

Amazing. Well, we’re aware that this is a very personal project for you to put together. How did you decide you wanted to vent, or heal, through music? What got you into starting the album?

Anjuna and I already had an album deal, but after the first album, I got lazy and I developed a bad habit, addiction and stuff. And I was totally gone from making music. I somehow functioned to play a show, but otherwise, I was doing all day at home on a weekday, and I’d go through a season of that and then go on tour. After I went to rehab three years ago, it reminded me why I like music so much and why I keep doing it to this day. So that really inspired me to make the album.

I see. I’ve seen a lot of DJs recently going sober. Do you think this is kind of a movement? Do you think this is something, like the community is healing in some way, not relying on drugs anymore to have fun? What’s your take on it?

I think people being healthier is nice. But I also love hanging out with drunk friends. So, to me, being sober is not a necessary thing if people can choose. I had a problem with that. That’s why I needed to be sober. But there are people who can handle them really well and know their limits. So I think it really depends on people.

Thank you. We discussed this with Tony from Above & Beyond last year when we had an interview with him about his album Salt, and I believe it could apply to you too. I bet sharing something so personal with the world, the album, must be tough. It takes courage to do so. Did you ever fear putting the album out and letting something so vulnerable become a part of the Internet?

I didn’t have any fear of sharing. Maybe because I experienced a lot of problems all my life, like addiction, being hospitalised, and going through rehab. After that, everything feels like nothing in comparison. So yeah, being vulnerable is a really easy thing for me to do. And then, of course, I’m making Dance music to play at the club. But the core of my purpose is to make music out of my memories. And that has stuck with me from the beginning. So it was kind of a natural process for me to speak up and be vulnerable online.

I see. Interesting take. Thank you. I know this one may be kind of a tough question. Any favourite tracks on the album, and why?

I really like ‘Hush My Heart’. Because I played at ABGT600, the Anjuna festival that was held in Mexico. And I played B2B with Luttrell. We were on last that day, and I always assumed he was going to close the stage because he has a bigger career than mine and he’s more experienced. But he was like, “You should close the stage, just play whatever you like”. And then I played ‘Hush My Heart’. And then all my Anjuna DJ friends came to the stage and they were singing to the lyrics and jumping together. I felt very connected. So that’s why it’s my favorite track.

I saw videos of that. That made me have goosebumps. On to another question, you’ve been making music for a good handful of years, so we’d like to know when was the first, or maybe if you have a very memorable time that you remember working on a track, and feeling like you had a really good product in your hands.

I started making music from some iPhone app. And then a guy from my hometown, Sapporo, reached out to me to ask if I was going to release the song. And I just know everything happened super quickly and then I moved out, so my environment also changed super quickly. So I didn’t have enough time to focus on the quality of the songs. Making music always felt more like, “OK, I got to do this”. So I somehow started playing shows, and then I moved to the States. It was all too fast.

But one of my favorite songs I’ve released is my ‘Immortal Lover’ remix for Andrew Bayer. It was already a very beautiful song, but I decided to make more of an Ambient spin from it instead of making it more clubby. After I finished the song and listened back, I felt like I’d done a really good job.

I see. That was a very important moment for Anjuna as well. When Andrew released the album and the remixes, it was all really impactful in the world of Anjuna. If we go back a few years, we would love to know, is there any story you have, any memory of what motivated you to become a music producer?

I used to listen to Rock music, and Skrillex, and I didn’t know any other genres or what House music was, but then came the day I went to my first Ambient show in my hometown. It was my first time seeing the live set setup, people using launchpads, and there was not even a beat on it. But people were there, listening to the textures, and the artists, they had a project mapping and stuff. And then I thought “I really want to be like them”.

Another very important moment in my life was the day my dad passed away. I felt like “maybe this is the point”. I felt like I had to become a musician, because he used to be a musician and he gave up. And since I was also interested in music and I also had my doubts, I decided to keep pushing. Maybe from the outside there’s no connection between both events, but I felt like I should focus on music from then on.

There definitely is a connection. That’s beautiful. Well, we were talking about Japan just now. Is Japan too different from the occidental world in terms of culture? Is there anything that marked you or that you struggled with when moving to the US, or rather, moving away from Japan?

The language barrier was the biggest one because, yes, we learned English in high school, at least during my time in high school, but back then, the English education in Japan was very, very bad. It was just textbook English, and I discovered only when I moved out that nobody uses formal words here in the US, for example. And I guess something that marked me was that I was super curious to know what was going on over the sea, because Japan is surrounded by ocean and we have to fly to go anywhere. Korea, China, their lands are connected, so maybe it’s easier for them to travel to different countries. But since I was in Hokkaido, that’s the northern island of Japan, not even the main island where Tokyo is, I really didn’t have information about anything happening outside. I was excited to see what was going on in the US.

Where do you find inspiration when making music? Is it memories? Is it something you see? A story someone told you? Do you just go with a blank mind to the studio and things come out naturally?

I sometimes use specific memories from my childhood or my life, but also traveling has really inspired me, for example, going on tour and seeing the snow or getting to meet different cultures, maybe even being in an Uber and it being super rainy outside. Something like a specific moment that stuck in my head is always an inspiration to make music.

Nice. Well, you’ve put out two albums now, which is already a lot for the great majority of musicians out there. The world is kind of shifting towards singles and EPs rather than albums. So we’d love to know, what’s your take on albums? What’s your opinion on the concept of the album? Is it ever useful for an artist to release an album? Is it well-received?

I think with an album, we can tell more stories. And we can put more effort towards that. I mean, singles and EPs need effort too, but an album is probably 10 songs long. So it needs a lot more work. And now Spotify and the other streaming platforms have gone mainstream and every song is becoming shorter and shorter. Some songs don’t even get to two minutes, and some others don’t have a break or just start with a vocal and then peak and end. And that’s how marketing works, I know it. But I love people who put out the full length of their music on platforms. And I really love extended versions more than radio edits, because there are still tiny details that you could not hear from the short, edited song meant for marketing.

I think it depends on the artist. Some just want to do EPs and short releases. But I would prefer an album and releasing singles from it ahead of time. That makes more sense to me. So all the releases can lead to the one album in the end.

Thank you. Do you ever go through burnout? And if so, how do you overcome it?

I think I burned out during the last album tour, which was three years ago. And I have no idea how to deal with it. Back then I would just drink alcohol to try and get numb and forget. But that was a really bad habit to have. And now I can tell I don’t feel burnt out yet. But next time I do feel burnt out, I think I could just take a break or focus on a hobby outside of music, or exercise, be out in the sun. I don’t know the exact way to deal with it, but from my experience, alcohol and drugs were not the choice.

I see. Thanks. Is there any belief, process, or lesson that came to you thanks to being a musician?

Maybe the big part was that my dad was a musician. But other than that, I don’t clearly know, because of course, I want to have a stable life and I want to have a home studio. I want to be able to pay for the nicer afternoon flights instead of the early morning cheap flights. But doing this is not about money or how many followers I have or all those things. It’s more about sharing my music, which means sharing my life. And I want to be a part of people’s memories. Just a tiny bit. Maybe some people listen to my music and have a specific memory, or someone came to my show, listened to my song and had some experience on the spot. And I want that to stay in their mind just a tiny bit, so I don’t feel lonely. So that’s why I do music.

I get you. That’s beautiful. Thanks. Now, this is one question that I love to ask. If you could travel to the past, any number of years that feels relevant to you, five years, ten years, and meet your past self, what would you tell her? Was there anything young Momi was far too worried about that wasn’t really necessary?

Yeah, I would want to speak to myself when I was 18 years old. I really didn’t know how to deal with family loss, and I didn’t go to university. I just worked after high school. So my life was really not stable. And that’s why I started doing drugs. So I wish I could tell her there are support systems around her, to look for them instead of just shutting down and dealing with it all by herself. But at the same time, because of that, I finished the second album, so…

You kind of got the good part out of it, which is always a good thing. Now, second to last question. Suppose there’s someone in our audience who is an aspiring producer, learning their way around music production. What would be one piece of advice you would tell them in order to achieve those goals that often feel so far away? For example the fact that living from music often feels really far away.

I’m finally able to rent my apartment and live by myself. But it took almost 10 or 11 years. I was couch surfing for three years between all of this too. And so I had those very discouraging moments when chasing my dream in which I wondered if it was ever really going to happen, or if I was seeing myself too big, in too big of a far dream. One day, I don’t know how long it will take, because it might need luck, too, just believe and keep pushing. I know these days we can do anything we want. So you don’t need to hear what other people say. If your family says, for example, be a doctor, be a lawyer, a DJ is not a job… End of the day, it’s your life, not theirs. So just do what you really love. And when you continue doing it, it definitely reaches the point where you feel comfortable.

Thank you. And now, final question. How do you see yourself in a few years’ time? Where would you like to be, for example, in five years or 10 years? And what do you wish would be the Qrion legacy to the rest of the world and your listeners?

Of course, I hope my music will be delivered to many people and I can share my vulnerability with them, or I can share a moment on the floor and have a connection with them. And at the same time, I also have a musical goal. I want to play at some big festivals. I want to play at shows and be a headliner and stuff, too. But my main goal is to keep releasing music and then be on tour, then back at home making music, release it, go on tour. So I hope I’ll be able to do that cycle more smoothly and naturally, because it took like two or three years to make the next album. So my goal is to make that more consistent.

Amazing. Well, thank you! Just before we finish the interview, though, I want to let you know I really like the way you put life in front of you, in the sense that you don’t have a fear of sharing how vulnerable sometimes an artist can be. There’s many people who I’ve spoken to that really try and hide themselves behind an artist’s character, and your view is super different. Since you said a while ago that nothing can be as bad as the times before rehab, and that that keeps you tethered to the ground and not afraid of sharing this. It is a view that I’ve never had before and it is a pleasure to hear something like it.

And I remember when I was 16 years old, I used to work at some Japanese restaurant in my hometown. And then the day of my first shift, the job was quite tough and I’d never worked in a restaurant. So I was so slow. And then the other employees yelled at me, not in a mean way, but because they were professionals. Then at the end of the shift, I decided to gather all the people in the kitchen and apologise because of how bad I was that day. And it actually made me cry.

And I was basically just by myself, crying in front of a bunch of new people. And they were like, “She just came today, why is she crying in front of us?”. And since I shared my vulnerability with them, after that, I felt so comfortable working with them. And I was not afraid to share my opinion, nor was I afraid to ask any questions.

So I had that experience when I was young, maybe that’s why sharing vulnerability is not a weak thing to do. It’s okay to do it. Maybe if you overdo it, people get a little bit confused. It depends on the situation. But definitely showing vulnerability is not a weakness. Weakness is shutting doors down and numbing yourself.

Final Words

What can I say… That was an astonishing interview. Entirely out of the love I have for the industry, I always try and offer my interview space as a sort of “safe place”, a warm and understanding corner in which the great minds I speak to can open up on any theme they want. I believe this leads to interviews far superior to the usual “filler questions” ones. And I love the result every single time.

Thank you so much Momi, not only for coming but also for the sheer bravery and meaning of your words. Thank you for feeling okay with being vulnerable. And thank you, so so much, for trusting this space for talking everything music: the good, the bad, and the ugly. I truly appreciate it a ton.

Works like this are the ones that keep the warm, kind part of this industry alive and afloat. Thanks, Q!

It’s been two whole weeks since Qrion released her second artist album, We Are Always Under The Same Sky, so I know I’m quite late to the party. But I truly wanted to take this time to simmer each track in my head and appreciate the work put into this piece, because I’ve read the story, and it’s an act of respect on my end to take each song in with care and patience.

Well, matter of fact, I’ve been following Momiji for years. She first popped onto my radar with the release of the Sapporo EP back in 2019, and then I got fully hooked with her ABGT350 performance that same year. What first stood out to me as a very shy Deep House variant, turned out to be a much more powerful expression of art coming from a culture that never ceases to amaze — Japan.

She kicked off 2025 in full swing with this LP, one that shows not only auditive magic, but also personal growth. AI will cheesily tell you these days, “The album is more than just X — it’s Y“, but I really want to take this phrase to heart and say it out loud, meaning every single word that I’m about to say: Momi’s album is much more than just plain music — it’s a door to one of the most vulnerable corners of her life, self-forgiveness.

We Are Always Under The Same Sky

Putting together a bunch of random, non-connected songs, calling it a day and releasing that as an album is one thing. Sharing a very personal and delicate matter through a number of songs that can all relate to each other, is completely different. Opening up is very difficult, let alone opening up to millions of spectators around the world. That takes courage.

That’s the wonder of art: it heals. And as much as listeners can relate or have personal stories and memories linked to certain songs, the beautiful thing about music is that, when engineered in the correct way, has the power to heal the author itself. Qrion’s We Are Always Under The Same Sky shines a light on her darkest corners of life. I’ll let her comments answer for me:

This album is a deeply personal reflection of my journey through some of the most challenging times in my life, including loneliness, addiction, and the struggle to rebuild myself during the pandemic. It represents my emotional and mental transformation from hitting rock bottom to finding self-love and forgiveness. The process of collaborating with amazing vocalists and working with Zee [Yorke] to bring my memories to life through visuals was significant. Every track and piece of artwork holds a personal story, and I hope these songs not only resonate with you but also offer a sense of connection.
-Qrion

The LP follows the release of Qrion’s 2021 debut album I Hope It Lasts Forever, which was hailed by Forbes as “stunning” and “a masterful production”. By openly addressing her struggles with addiction and recovery after her father’s passing, she imbues the theme of rebirth with a profound sense of poignancy and resilience in her new record. We Are Always Under The Same Sky represents the next phase of Qrion’s journey, written as a reflection of the past.

And even though the minimalistic aspect of the music that got me into her still holds true, today’s Qrion sounds much more lively, and full of pride and power, which only matches the actual stage in which she describes herself feeling in life. The album is heavily tinted with melodic goodies, which make for a very uplifting listen.

Writer’s Picks

I had one pick, then I had two, then three… now I feel like I have five. So I’ll go with the two that marked my experience during first listen: ‘Goa‘ and ‘I Like You A Lot‘. The first time I listened to the album was while driving, and I vividly remember when ‘Goa’ came blasting through the car’s speakers, I started to swing my body from side to side. I’ve yet to understand what it means (although I’m assuming it’s got to do with memories made at the Indian location of the same name), but what it sparked in me was pure happiness, on a particular day in which I was struggling just a little bit more than usual.

As for ‘I Like You A Lot’, I really dig how minimal it is, in the sense of how few elements are used to make a compelling, almost infectiously catchy product. By this point I was full-on vibing to the album in that same drive I just talked about, and this one was a new high for me. Complemented beautifully, of course, by the closing track, ‘Sad Song‘, which brought me back down to Earth in a very A&B-esque way, but also with a more melancholic, reflective tone. Tears were shed in the middle of rush hour.

Qrion — We Are Always Under The Same Sky Tracklist

Final Words

Hats off to this project. Finding peace through music is something I love to experience, and hearing about an artist healing wounds through their music hugs my soul in a way I can’t describe. In a world consumed by ego and hatred, growing aware of one’s issues and addressing them through composing is a very, VERY brave decision, almost as much as letting these feelings out to the world, risking appearing fragile. In the correct hands, fragility is welcomed, and hugged, and loved. And I believe Anjuna encompasses those hands perfectly, and there couldn’t have been a better home for this album.

Thanks Momi for this collection.

Offering a further glimpse into her forthcoming album, We Are Always Under The Same Sky, set for release on January 17th via Anjunadeep, the acclaimed Austin-based Japanese producer Qrion (Momiji Tsukada) unveils her captivating deep house single, ‘Lean Into Light,‘ featuring the ethereal vocals of pinkpirate.

INSERT SPOTIFY LINK

Equally at home on the dancefloor or through headphones, the track showcases Qrion’s exceptional craftsmanship, with each release offering a fresh and nuanced listening experience rich with meaning and emotion. The collaboration with 24-year-old British electronic alt-pop rising star pinkpirate results in a seamlessly harmonious blend, heightened by her delicate, expressive vocals.

‘Lean Into Light’ is the fourth single off the upcoming album, following last month’s ‘Keep On Moving Up,’ and previously released singles, ‘Hush My Heart,‘ ‘Ice Palace,‘ and ‘Miyanosawa.’ Speaking about the new track, Momiji muses, “When I worked on Lean Into Light, I was in a sad place. The pluck sounds in the song were inspired by the rain, reflecting how I felt like I was in a dark tunnel, struggling to find my way out. I wrestled with feelings of regret about my life, searching for excuses to make myself feel better. But eventually, I saw the light coming toward me, guiding me to realize that it’s okay to make mistakes. Those years weren’t something to regret; they were a learning experience. I didn’t share much of this with Pink, but she understood the vibe perfectly when we were in the studio. Her delicate voice perfectly matched the song, and she truly brought it to life. I especially love how she wrote “Memory Stays” – it captured the essence of the track so beautifully.”

Qrion’s Upcoming Album

Qrion’s upcoming album, We Are Always Under The Same Sky, signifies a rebirth for Qrion, representing the next phase of her journey following her debut, written as a reflection of the past. The album is also a celebration of female and non-binary Southeast Asian talent, with features from British-Kongese singer-songwriter Josie Man and Paris-based South Korean DJ, producer, and vocalist DIDI HAN. Qrion teamed up with the American-Chinese animator and designer Zee Yorke for all the artwork accompanying the album.

Melancholic, wistful, and dancefloor-minded, Qrion’s sound ranges from supple, exploratory works to driving house and soul-sampling groovers, always with a light and playful touch – evoking memories and feelings through sound. Her productions have drawn acclaim across dancefloors globally, from her long-running relationship with Anjunadeep to her remixes for Booka Shade and Röyksopp. It’s music for walking in the rain, driving through mountains, or reflecting on memories.

Widely acclaimed Austin (TX)- based producer Qrion (real name Momiji Tsukada) has shared a new taster from her recently announced second album, ‘We Are Always Under The Same Sky’. The album will be released on January 17th, 2025 via Anjunadeep. ‘Keep On Moving Up,’ is a powerful, raw house track infused with poignant lyrics reflecting her sobriety journey. The accompanying artwork reflects the hills of San Francisco and Sapporo, where Momi (Qrion) is reaching for a star at the top. This is a nod to the determination and joy of progression. It resembles the star-collecting journey in Super Mario 64. Each star is a step toward the ultimate goal, representing resilience and the pursuit of something greater.
