The order directs federal agencies to accelerate research and streamline regulatory pathways for psychedelic-assisted therapies, signaling a dramatic shift in how the U.S. approaches mental health treatment. Ibogaine is a naturally occurring compound derived from an African shrub, often associated with treating addiction, PTSD, and depression. Despite its reputation, it remains a Schedule I substance in the U.S., meaning it’s currently classified alongside drugs with no accepted medical use.

The administration is backing the push with a reported $50 million investment into research, aiming to unlock new treatment options for what officials describe as a growing mental health crisis, particularly among veterans. And while the policy doesn’t immediately legalize ibogaine, it does something arguably more impactful: it opens the door for serious, large-scale scientific validation.

Marcus Luttrell, the former Navy SEAL known as the lone survivor of his four-man team in Operation Red Wings during the War in Afghanistan and the inspiration for the film Lone Survivor, credited psychedelic treatment with giving him his “life back.” He said the executive order would help save many lives. “Can I have some, please?” the president joked during the signing, flanked by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., podcaster Joe Rogan, and other cabinet officials.

For years, Americans seeking ibogaine therapy have had to travel to countries like Mexico, operating in legal gray zones with limited oversight. Culturally, this moment hits different. Psychedelics, once relegated to festival fields and late-night conversations, are increasingly finding their way into boardrooms, biotech pipelines, and now, federal policy.

The mainstream is finally catching up to something the underground’s been talking about for years.

The 75-day stay that President Trump signed the executive order for gives the popular social media app another breathe of existence in the United States after the initial ban that the President Biden signed off on before he left office. In regard to anyone who want to reinstall TikTok on their phones, Digital Music News reported that Apple and Google are still blocking the app from their respective app stores. The blocking of the app on the Apple and Google app stores prevents TikTok users who initially uninstalled/deleted the app or prospective users who want to download the app for the first, to install the app back on their phones. One related subject to TikTok staying for 75 more days, President Trump also mentioned the idea of a joint venture that may own TikTok.

Just hours before TikTok blocked service to Americans, Trump posted to Truth Social calling for it to remain available. Trump indicated that he wanted it to be available to broadcast his inauguration on Monday. TikTok welcomed users back with the message “Welcome back! Thanks for your patience and support. As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the U.S.! You can continue to create, share, and discover all the things you love on TikTok.”

The app is still unavailable for download from Apple’s and Google’s app stores. The law banning TikTok, which was scheduled to go into effect Sunday, allows the president to grant a 90-day extension before the ban is enforced, provided certain criteria are met. Trump has proposed a joint venture for TikTok, with the U.S. owning 50%, but even that idea faces a potential hurdle.

TikTok is owned by ByteDance which is based in Beijing. Most of the concerns that President Trump and others have pertains to the Chinese corporation’s handling of users’ data. While the majority of people in the United States feel safe using TikTok, some apprehension remains over having sensitive user data stored in China. One solution involves Microsoft acquiring TikTok and storing user data in the United States.

This past weekend, Microsoft announced on Twitter that they would;

“continue discussions on potential TikTok purchase in the United States. President Trump has reportedly allowed Microsoft to continue working towards a solution, as long as a deal is made within 45 days. If purchased, Microsoft has stated that it would “build on the experience TikTok users currently love, while adding world-class security, privacy, and digital safety protections.”

Most importantly, user data outside the USA would be deleted.

All in all, Microsoft may be TikTok’s only chance to survive in the U.S. Nonetheless, many now share the concern of whether or not having Microsoft be in control of their user data is any better. Finally, we’ll have to wait and see if TikTok makes it to 2021.

In his new memoir, Then It Fell Apart, Moby admits that while at a party back in 2001, he had brushed his penis on Donald Trump. Yes, it was intentional as Moby stated he and his drunk friends were bored. Trump, at the time, was working in real-estate and likely had no idea what Moby had done, even to this day. Here’s a snippet from Moby’s memoir, describing the event in his words:

“I drank a shot of vodka to brace myself, pulled my flaccid penis out of my pants, and casually walked past Trump, trying to brush the edge of his jacket with my penis. Luckily he didn’t seem to notice or even twitch.”

We’re not sure why Moby thought it was a good idea to brag about what seems to be sexual assault but then again, at least he’s open to moving to Canada. Also worth noting, there doesn’t seem to be any regret from the artist, as it sounds like he’d do it again if he could go back in time. The Bandcamp staff wrote about their support for the LGBT+ community on the company’s official website. “Bandcamp is a platform for artistic expression, and all manner of variance in experience and identity, including gender and sexuality, is welcome here,” they wrote.  “We support our LGBT+ users and staff, and we stand against any person or group that would see them further marginalized.”

Bandcamp responded in a similar vein following Trump’s “Muslim ban” in February by holding a fundraiser for the ACLU. The company sold over an estimated $1 million of music that day, and their entire share of music sales—which is roughly 12 percent—was sent to the ACLU. The other 88 percent goes to the labels and artists, but over 400 of them had pledged to donate their share of sales as well. The company invites artists and labels to send some or all of their shares of Friday’s sales directly to TLC to help raise money and awareness. The upcoming fundraiser for TLC will last from 12:00am to 11:59pm PST on Friday. The latest version of this same story just took place at Glastonbury festival in the UK, where actor Johnny Depp was there to introduce a screening of his upcoming film, The Libertine. While he was there he said “Can you bring Trump here?” to the crowd, drawing shouts from the crowd. He then said

“You misunderstand completely. When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?”

While this comment could be construed as innocuous, he followed it up to remove all doubt by saying,

“I want to clarify, I’m not an actor. I lie for a living [but] it’s been a while. Maybe it’s about time.”

Realizing the gravity of what he had said he retorted “By the way, this is going to be in the press and it’ll be horrible. It’s just a question, I’m not insinuating anything.”

Nevertheless, his innuendo was heard loud and clear and Johnny Depp got his first headline unrelated to a bad movie in many years. Needless to say the internet backlash has been enormous.

On Monday, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek took to Twitter to respond to Obama’s comment.
