“April Fools!“, is what we’d say if the date was April 1st. But, why do we care about it today, a day in December, so far away from that particular day? Well, in the Spanish-speaking countries of the Latin America region, this tradition is held on a completely different date: December 28th. And that day, mind you, happens to be today.

The origins of what they call the “Día de los Inocentes” (Innocents’ Day) are quite dark, though. Two stories are often the ones credited as true: the religious version recalls a passage of the Bible in which Herod the Great, king of Judea, once acknowledging the birth of Jesus Christ, ordered to kill all infants under two years of age, fearing the so-called “Messiah” would become more powerful than him. That event is known as the Massacre Of The Innocents. The other version is rooted in Ancient Rome, a society that celebrated Saturnalia, days of parties during which slaves were “allowed” to prank their masters without consequences.

But… why do we care about all of this in an EDM-tinted news site? Well…

Tomorrowland Mexico?

Earlier today, a picture started circulating across Hispanic blogs, with what seemed to be the announcement flyer for a 2024 Tomorrowland Mexico gathering. The flyer was circulated by EMPO, an EDM events production company based in Mexico. A first for the country, it’s safe to say the Mexican EDM scene was jumping around in joy, only to remember that it’s Dia de los Inocentes. The picture built so much momentum, though, you might find it around, still passed as true information.

The dates were supposed to be September 13th through 15th next year, and the festival’s theme, ‘The Reflection Of Love’.

Have a look at the — unfortunate — reaction of those who fell for the fake announcement:

elrow Netflix Documentary Seeking 1000 Extras for All-Expenses Paid Party Tour

Elrow always takes this “holiday” to the next level. Last year they teased an elrow Cruise for this day and this year they took it to a new level. They teased a Netflix documentary and asked for 1000 fans who want to be “extras” in the documentary. As part of the role, 1000 fans would get all expenses paid travel and access to elrow events in a Chilean Desert, South African Waterfalls, and the Colosseum in Rome. Imagine how amazing, and expensive, that would be! Sadly, it’s just a prank.

Other Memorable Pranks

Just like on April Fools, an endless number of influencers, artists and even brands come together on this date to trick the Latino community on social media. New menu items are announced, the news is passed around that a certain band is either retiring or changing their aim to another genre, monuments are built/destroyed, and so on. You get the idea.

So, in conclusion, keep your eyes specially peeled today, as you might come across one or two surprises. Don’t be the fooled one this time!

More than 24 hours later, the lie was revealed by the activist duo The Yes Men, known by the pseudonyms of Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bonanno, who played the roles of Aristide Feldholt and DJ Marshmello on stage, despite the obvious physical differences between Bichlbaum and Feldholt.

The Act Itself

In a press release sent to journalists, the activists claimed that the event organizers had believed they had invited Adidas and DJ Marshmello to speak, “when in fact they had a well-organized cabal of activists who conceived a satire to target Adidas for its inaction on labor issues“.

The Yes Men also assured that the Lisbon Breakers dance group, which performed a choreography on stage, had not realized that they had been hired by “imposters“.

The real DJ Marshmello confirmed the hoax on X.

The Yes Men’s Aim

The Yes Men’s main goal is to raise awareness of issues such as labor rights through media stunts, posing as powerful people and spokespeople for large organizations to expose how companies act inhumanely.

The activists say on their website that they “destroy brands, create public illusions, work with communities, disrupt events, and impersonate nefarious entities” with the goal of “supporting positive change around important issues, often those that are not yet receiving the attention they deserve“.

At the Web Summit, The Yes Men presented the adiVerse, a “virtual oasis” through which Adidas would reward tens of thousands of “underpaid” workers through a cryptocurrency, the adiCoin, generated by a tiny chip implanted in the bodies of the brand’s workers and that would track workers’ productivity in real time.

“Imagine a place where workers, even the poorest, can have anything they want, where workers who don’t have a decent meal a day can party all day and all night, where workers can educate and care for their young children, and where even without money, workers can still live full and rewarding lives“, the supposed Aristide Feldholt said on stage at the Web Summit.

Therefore, the adiVerse would allow “offering something even better: a place where workers could enjoy the luxuries of an unlimited dream world” and that workers who cannot afford to eat a meal every day “will be able to live beyond their dreams” and the most disadvantaged “will be able to live full and rewarding lives“, even “without real money“.

Without anyone raising any objections, the supposed “executive” of Adidas spoke of the “Nazi origins” of the brand, “outsourcing of forced labor in World War II“, the problems of child labor “almost resolved“, and the current “labor abuses“.

Recently, Business Insider acquired an internal email from Google’s head of marketing, Lorraine Twohill. In the email, Twohill wrote that “This year, we’re going to take the year off from that tradition out of respect for all those fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.” In addition, she wrote that while major jokes planned have been cancelled but there may be smaller projects still going forward that they are unaware of.

“Our highest goal right now is to be helpful to people, so let’s save the jokes for next April, which will undoubtedly be a whole lot brighter than this one.”

Google has incorporated jokes and pranks in several online sites during previous April Fool’s Day traditions. For example, last year, users were able to play the classic game of Snake in Google Maps. Other gags included Space Invaders in Google Calendar and jokes from Google Assistant. In all, Google enjoyed the challenge of outdoing itself year after year, even if other companies never participated.

While a laugh may be helpful during our current situation, certain jokes and pranks will only bring unnecessary stress. Everyone around the world is impacted in some way by the COVID-19 virus. The last thing we need is more misread information spread through social media. Still, we will all get through this and have more to look forward to in the near future.

If you follow Dillon Francis, you are probably used to his jokes and prank stories with other DJs.

Back in 2015, Dillon Francis bought the DJSnake.com domain and created a mysterious countdown on the website. After igniting panic in DJ Snake‘s team and speculations among his fans, the countdown turned out to be an announcement for ‘Look At That Butt‘, Francis’ latest single back then.

On the other hand, DJ Snake had previously posted Dillon Francis’ phone number for all to see as a graphic on the LED screens during Ultra Miami 2015. He again did the same with Diplo, but this time it was on Snapchat.

Remember when @djsnake pulled this move on @DILLONFRANCIS at #Ultra2015?

Well, Dillon’s finally gotten his revenge…

While this latest prank might be a teaser for an upcoming collaboration or just a pure joke, we will be seeing a Dillon Francis’ counter-prank sooner or later. Your move Dillon.

Four years ago we all remember what happened during DJ Snake‘s set at Ultra, the French DJ and producer had come up with a hilarious prank for his fellow DJ friend Dillon Francis. The set went off as usual with the exception of one image that was plastered along the screens at the main stage:

Cut back to today and we have a mysterious counter that has gone live on what appeared to be DJ Snake‘s website that had fans speculating just what the “Special Announcement” could be.

Fans also speculated that it may have had something to do with the upcoming album DJ Snake tweeted about being on the way just last month.

New Album on the way.

However, the countdown concluded and it was revealed that the whole thing had been a clever ruse put together by the hilarious DJ Dillon Francis himself.

It turn out Francis had been biding his time and waited years to finally find the right moment to execute his revenge prank, as explained in the video he posted below.

The website, DJSnake.com, had actually been used by Francis to promote his brand new track collaboration with Jarina De Marco funny enough named, “Look At That Butt“.

All in all Francis states that it is now DJ Snake’s move as he waits to see how he will get back at Dillon. Make sure to give the site a visit and check out the new release, as it is another one of Francis bangers and a new banger is never bad, clever prank or not.

Thanksgiving is a time for giving and appreciating those around you. In the electronic dance community, the members seem to give thanks to those around them in very out-of-the-box and hilarious way. True fans know that DJ Snake & Dillon Francis‘ bromance is built by an absolutely out of control series of pranks which ultimately display their strong bound. For Thanksgiving this year, DJ Snake decided to take his joking to another level by sending the ‘Say Less‘ producer a giant canister of penises – which is designed to hilariously explode when opened.

Check out the madness below:

I don’t know about you, but at EDMTunes we think this is undeniably entertaining; not to mention, a perfectly executed prank! The simplexity of the joke makes us love their iconic bromance even more and feel closer to them as human beings – not just as DJs. You can really tell by Dillon’s tone of voice that he appreciated this act, even though he had to spend a lot of time cleaning up the glittery penises!

This Snapchat video mashup will be on repeat for a while – it’s extremely amusing and makes us laugh every single time. We absolutely can’t wait to see what Dillon is going to do to get revenge on the French musician. The ‘Let Me Love You‘ DJ should be anticipating something bigger than the dicks that he sent! Watch out…

The comical pranks range wide. One involves deceiving customers into thinking a member of the duo is about to get fired and could use some praise before that happens. Another involves trying to fool guests into thinking the guys from “The Chainsmokers” are actually the hotter version of the in-store duo.

Mixed reactions from the shoppers include a subtle burn by one of the guests who happens to have heard some mixed reviews. Watch them in the funny video segment above.

The announcement was suspicious from the start because the date was given as July 25th, which is one day and right after Tomorrowland. It would seem curious that a huge festival in Belgium would need a satellite event right afterwards in basically the same region. Perhaps the biggest actual news to come out of this is that other countries celebrate “Fools Day” at different times. The technical term for the day is the Feast of the Holy Innocents, which is a festival in Spain and Latin American countries featuring pranks. Who knew?

For those of you who were really itching to attend Tomorrowland Spain, check out this year’s aftermovie for Belgium’s edition and see if that encourages you to plan your trip.

O’Sullivan, along with his friend and an “acting street team assistant”, decided to play a prank where he would pose in front of Armin van Buuren’s massive OMNIA Nightclub billboard wearing the same attire and striking the same signature pose. The end result is pure gold, so be sure to check out the full video below.

Memes are like seasons, they come and go. Currently, one of the hottest ones out there is the ‘Unexpected John Cena’. It seems like there’s a new video of the WWE superstar popping up on my news feed every single day, but this latest one might take the cake.

We’ve seen DJs troll crowd with ‘Rickrolling’ and underwhelming “Turn Down For What” drops, but this has to be the first time John Cena has made his way into a set. The video begins with the DJ playing Eminem’s classic tune “My Name Is” before transitioning into something that shocked everyone in attendance. Check out the priceless clip below and if you’re unfamiliar with the ‘Unexpected John Cena’ meme, we’ve also included a compilation video for your viewing pleasure.
