For their newest compilation, mau5trap brought together their historically known heavy-hitters for 18 tracks on ‘we are friends vol. 10‘. They’ve left no stone unturned featuring many talents, including the head of the label himself, deadmau5. Fans that have been following the label for a long while are surely going to be satisfied.

While the compilation series tended to focus on up-and-coming artists, this one goes through the label’s history to pull their powerhouses. To name a few right off the bat, you’ll find tracks by ATTLAS, BlackGummy, Fehrplay, Matt Lange, No Mana, Wolfgang Gartner, and Zonderling. That’s obviously not all, as the entire body of work brings together names of that caliber.

Kicking off ‘we are friends vol. 10’ is deadmau5 through ‘Arguru 2k19‘, a newly forged version of the classic off random album title. Following, ‘Feels Like‘ by ATTLAS features the immense talents of Colleen D’agostino, and bringing the artists together offered us a tepid and tranquil track filled with intimate textures.

Throughout its run, mau5trap’s we are friends series has been a point of reference for much of the community surrounding the imprint. Whether it’s bringing new artists to the table or calling back on the old, it offers a body in which any of the aforementioned can co-exist. Taking that into consideration, the compilations evidently placed a wide array of artists on our radar, making it a staple for both artists and the community.

Lastly, listen to the ‘we are friends vol. 10’ compilation by mau5trap below!

To celebrate 20 years since its inception, Sven Väth’s Cocoon Recordings would like to present Solomun’s ‘We Will Never Have Today Again‘. The label is serving up a special 15 track collection that brings together new and exclusive music. It features many artists that have made the journey.

The track itself is a techno masterpiece if I’ve ever heard one. The retro sounding synths exude a dramatic and epic groove, where the drums boldly beat. His synth work is impeccable here, reminding you of major club vibes. This song will make you dance and even though we can’t right now, you’ll envision yourself dancing to this. We miss those sultry low lights strobing on the dance floor.

Solomun masters his music, highlighting different shades, moments, and memories. Making people dance is what he does, and his emotion evoking tunes cast a spell through his performances. His energy is infectious, drawing in crowds like a moth to a flame.

As for the upcoming collection, it’ll recognize all that techno has evolved from. In the beginning, it started with an early rave techno sound in the late 80s. Through time, it expanded to include a wide range of styles. The 6 x 12″ box set will pay homage to one of techno’s finest operations. It will feature the likes of Rampa, Emanuel Satie, Solomun, Gregor Tresher, Pig & Dan, Joseph Ashworth, and more.

Jacek Sienkiewicz, Andre Galluzzi, and Daniel Stefanik bring on the dark side of techno. Extrawelt, Petar Dundov, and Sebastian Mullaert give us the soulful, melodic, and magical side. Say no more synths, we’re ready for it. They’re taking techno in a bold, new direction so get ready.

For now, listen to the first track of the collection below.

DJ/Producer duo Pig & Dan (Dan Duncan and Igor Tchkotoua) recently released their newest EP, Tunnel Vision Pt. 1. It’s a wonderfully crafted and technical EP.

The songs found in the album themselves have a diverse profile yet sink into the collective beautifully. They smoothly build off one another and continue the darkened album theme with a variety of sounds that keeps you wanting more. The songs run quite long but honestly, like a good film, you don’t notice the runtime. You just notice the structure and level of craft in those methodical choices. You enjoy it truly as a listener but also appreciate it at the same time as a musician or artist.

The song that stands out for me most; while in all fairness, I adore every single one of these tracks, has to be ‘Traces.’ Its got a really beautiful shadow of a melody that carries it throughout. The track still has a visceral theme to it, but there’s almost a redemption or hope in the melody while all these other vast and guttural elements play through. It’s a beautiful track and it really stood out to me.

The EP overall is a well-rounded kaleidoscope of darkness that with each twist, shows there’s more than what meets the surface. I can’t wait to hear what else Pig & Dan have in store for us!

If you’re a fan of techno and darker tech, do give this a listen. It’s a brilliant example of the technical side of the craft.

Get your fix of orchestral remixes with deadmau5’s just-released ‘Here’s The Drop‘ album featuring a variety of artists. The remix album, which touches on 2018’s ‘Where’s The Drop?’, spans 15 tracks and is out on his own Mau5trap imprint today!

Tracks 1-5

‘Here’s The Drop’ kicks off with Morgan Page remixing ‘imaginary friends‘. Morgan opted for a plucky and pulled vibrant sound allowing the orchestral elements to remain underlying. From there, Tinlicker deliver a more spacious sound on ‘luxuria‘, combining their style while giving the original elements their own space. Right after, Gregory Reveret turns down the energy with a calming remix of ‘coelacanth‘. Specifically, the production focuses on an ambient energy infusing light percussive elements. Rinzen then strikes with his moody and percussive remix of ‘acedia‘ marking his second official deadmau5 remix. Trailing, Seismal D takes a deep tone on ‘avaritia‘ emphasizing filtering bass synths with delicate bubbling leads.

Tracks 6-10

Up next on ‘Here’s The Drop’ is Sian‘s delivery of a pulsating remix of ‘monophobia‘. Notably, it utilizes the orchestral parts significantly less than previous remixes as the producer focuses on his own sound. In continuation, Pig & Dan infuse their rhythmic techno sound with harmonious orchestral breaks. This provides a melancholic contrast on the production within their remix of ‘gula‘. Being one of the standout remixes, No Mana puts an exceptional spin on ‘invidia‘. The remix transitions phases through a warping glitchy cut pushing into an alluring scaling piano. Overall, the cuts warping the remix through the original and new elements provide a striking uniqueness. Siding by it, Mad Zach arranges a padded remix for ‘unjaded‘. Crunched pads, leads, a bottoming bass and minimal percussion show a progressive pulled sound. Following, Gallya spins break-beats with acidic-esque synths and a punchy percussion on ‘ira‘ topped by a succeeding lead.

Tracks 11-15

Going into the final 5 tracks, Spencer Brown‘s previously released remix of ‘fn pig‘ takes its turn. Moving from that, Mr. Bill stands out through his remix of the beloved ‘hr 8938 cephei‘. On it, the producer accentuates the contrasting eerie breakdowns and his prominent glitchy sections. Showcasing what might be a favorite on the record, Matt Lange gives us a remix of ‘superbia‘. If you’re not familiar, Matt commonly works around orchestral and live elements, so it comes as no surprise that he did an outstanding job as usual. The remix offers a magnetizing feeling with the compelling orchestral elements drawing us in as the percussive side provides movement. Onwards, Dom Kane puts an infectious and dancey spin on ‘caritas’ while maintaining orchestral euphoric breaks. Concluding ‘Here’s The Drop’ is none other than PEEKABOO a remix of ‘Strobe‘. The production clearly keeps the source material close to heart.

Final Words

It’s a pleasure to hear all these producers put their own take on an orchestral piece of music. Each remix allowed every individual’s style and sound to shine in its own way. ‘Here’s The Drop’ comes amidst deadmau5 touring his Cube v3, and you can find some of the remixers here on the road with him too.
Deadmau5 just announced that he’s releasing a new remix album titled ‘Here’s the Drop‘. Mark your calendars and save the date for October 4th as we see its release on mau5trap.

This album features remixes of material from his 2018 orchestral album ‘Where’s The Drop?‘. Remember it? It is a collaborative arrangement with musical director, Gregory Reveret. If you had the pleasure of attending one of the two sold-out nights at the Wiltern, you’ll know how esteemed this new one will be.

Pre-save the album here now as it features Morgan Page, Pig & Dan, Peekaboo and more of your favorite mau5trap artists. It includes 15 tracks that will take you on a cerebral journey of these revered tastemakers. Morgan Page brings us an ‘imaginary friends’ remix’ and Matt Lange takes on ‘superbia’. I don’t think we can wait for these reimagined offerings, but just so you are aware, here is the track list below.

01. imaginary friends (ov) [Morgan Page Remix]

02. luxuria (ov) [Tinlicker Remix]

03. coelacanth (ov) [Gregory Reveret Remix]

04. acedia (ov) [Rinzen Remix]

05. avaritia (ov) [Seismal D Remix]

06. monophobia (ov) [Sian Remix]

07. gula (ov) [Pig&Dan Remix]

08. invidia (ov) [No Mana Remix]

09. unjaded (ov) [Mad Zach Remix]

10. ira (ov) [Gallya Remix]

11. fn pig (ov) [Spencer Brown Remix]

12. hr 8938 cephei (ov) [Mr. Bill Remix]

13. superbia (ov) [Matt Lange Remix]

14. caritas (ov) [Dom Kane Remix]

15. strobe (ov) [PEEKABOO Remix]

And as a special treat, here is Spencer Brown’s remix of ‘fn pig‘ below. Get a taste for what this album has to offer us. It is over nine minutes of straight progressive house bliss with a splash of Brown’s signature sound.

Who’s joining Joel on his cube v3 tour for the most exciting and complex production? It’s going to be mind bending, and it’s almost sold out!

Don’t miss your chance on seeing this once in a lifetime tour.

San Diego‘s beloved CRSSD Festival will return in a little over two weeks time. For this, we could not be more excited. We will once again see CRSSD Festival return to downtown San Diego. The two day event will be held at the Waterfront Park, and will run from September 29-30. Just as with the last CRSSD Fest, the lineup runs deep. It will be featuring equal amounts of House, Techno, and Live Electronic Music.

On the house side of things, we can all plan on seeing names such Anti-Up (which consists of Chris Lake & Chris Lorenzo), Dusky, and AC Slater. When it comes to techno, Veteran DJs such as John Digweed, Pig & Dan, and Nina Kraviz have got us covered. As far as the live acts go, the roster is amazing. You can expect to see marquee acts such as Bob Moses, Flight Facilities, and Duke Dumont. You can also count on seeing Chicago-based Louis The Child, as they are this year’s Special Guest.

These are indeed some of the biggest names in both electronica and the underground. It should be remembered, however, that there is still a whole lineup full of artists’ waiting to be heard. This is where CRSSD Festival’s Official Spotify Playlist comes into play. Featuring music from over 50+ CRSSD Artist of both the past and present, you get your pick of over 120+ tracks. With a playlist like this, you are more than prepared for the show to come.

You can check out the Official Spotify Playlist here, or stream it below. Tickets for the event can be purchased here, but act fast as they are nearly sold out.
