It is a much-deserved accomplishment for the Swedish trio, joining a select few artists whose projects have been deemed so good they’re asked to work on movie soundtracks as well. The move marks yet another important step in today’s ever-evolving music industry. As more and more genres, such as dance music begin to earn more and more recognition in the art industry, these fusions should become something common.

And, while we can’t make any absolute claims, one thing is for certain. This soundtrack sounds absolutely magnificent. It seems that, once again, both the Swedish House Mafia and the Weeknd have come together to perfectly deliver a balance between underground and mainstream. Light and dark. Pop and under.

The new Avatar movie is finally coming to the cinemas. Such a big film could not be released without a proper soundtrack. It depicts a blue A in the style of Cameron’s masterpiece. In the story, another name is mentioned. An artist which has, in the past, been an integral part of SHM’s return. This artist is none other than The Weeknd. Arguably one of the top 3 biggest artists in the world, this seems to announce a collaboration between these 4 artists could soon be coming.

Alesso – Dark

Alesso may have accomplished one of his many dreams recently. He seems to be part of the movie ‘The Batman‘ soundtrack. As a matter of fact, the song called ‘Dark‘, written and produced by him, features in the movie’s credits. The Swedish superstar has since released the record on all streaming platforms.

Alesso has all but officially confirmed his implication in the blockbuster. In fact, he shared some Instagram stories on March 1 at a screening of the film, showing his production in the credits. Alesso’s involvement in ‘The Batman’ was rumored a few weeks back when the soundtrack list was posted on Twitter.

Right from the start, you notice that ‘Dark’ is way shorter than the usual record in dance music. On Spotify, the song lasts only a minute and seventeen seconds. However, it does not lack energy. The song has techno vibes with a necessarily dark tone to it. You can easily picture images from an action-type movie like ‘The Batman’ paired with Alesso’s latest record.

Alesso’s love for Bruce Wayne is no stranger than anyone. He publicly declared his preference for the Dark Knight among superheroes no more than two years ago, on his Twitter account. ‘The Batman’ released on March 4, so we will have to head to the theaters to appreciate the song in a movie set. The film’s story is not all fun and games as it follows Adam, a high schooler diagnosed with schizophrenia. Throughout the story, we see Adam working through many obstacles and struggles before meeting someone special. A story of this nature needed an equally moving score. Words on Bathroom Walls has just recently been released but has received positive reviews, including the music by Alex and Drew.

While this is the first feature film the duo has worked on, their work further proves they are more than traveling DJs. If anything, their work on this film is a great indicator that TCS4 will be well worth the wait. There’s no confirmation when TCS4 will be complete but when their social media is active again, we know it’ll be close.

More than one year from its release, Armin van Buuren‘s ‘Blah Blah Blah‘ is still rocking it. The track just got featured in the trailer for Michael Bay‘s upcoming Netflix movie ‘6 Underground‘.

‘Blah Blah Blah‘ was released in May 2018. Today the official Youtube video has more than 360 million views, making it one of the highest figures in the electronic music scene.

This is not the first time the track was used for entertainment/sports events or videos. Ajax Amsterdam, for example, plays the track after every goal scored for youth leagues. This first occurred during the under-17 Future Cup tournament in 2019.

The track was used in a marketing campaign by Ajax in preparation of the 2018–19 UEFA Champions League quarterfinal game against Juventus. And it was a big success. The video had the name “And we don’t even care about what they say” used from the song’s lyrics. (Probably thanks to Armin) Ajax Amsterdam won the title last year and the song was also used during the title celebrations.

According to Armin’s Facebook post, the song will not only be featured in the trailer but also in the movie. “6 Underground” is expected to be released on December 13, 2019. So we will probably get some ‘Blah Blah Blah‘ hype while watching the latest Michael Bay movie.

Deadmau5 announced today that he has made his first-ever film score for the movie Polar, set to release in 2019.

Directed by acclaimed Swedish director and drummer, Jonas Akerlund, the film is based off of the action noir comic of the same name. It is about a former top international assassin, The Black Kaiser, settling into retirement only to learn that his former organization is trying to kill him. Forced out of retirement, he goes head to head against a squad of younger, stronger assassins who are hell-bent for his destruction.

Jayson Rothwell (Silent Night) wrote the screenplay, and the talent includes Mads Mikkelsen (Doctor Strange), Vanessa Hudgens (Spring Breakers), Katheryn Winnick (Vikings), and Matt Lucas (Alice In Wonderland).

The music for this action-packed film brimming with mystery and intrigue will be entirely custom produced by deadmau5. Clearly, the steely and gritty feel of this film noir movie that’s set in an icy landscape should complement perfectly to some of deadmau5’s darker and deeper musical tastes, such as his 2017’s “Bad at Titles.”

Polar is set to be released globally in 2019 by Netflix, with the exception of Canada, Germany, and China, which will be released by Constantin Film.

Always a patron of the cinema, enigmatic Daft Punk icon Thomas Bangalter has created a new song as part of the soundtrack for the movie Climax, the latest film from gore-extraordinaire director Gaspar Noé. The song, titled “Sangria,’ presumably will be released along with the film on September 19, 2018. It appears on the soundtrack with Bangalter’s track “What To Do” and Daft Punk’s “Rollin’ & Scratchin’.”

The two previously worked together on Noé’s 2002 film Irréversible and his 2009 film Enter the Void. In an interview from 2010, Bangalter had this to say about Noé: “I always like working with him because he is extremely intelligent and he is a very good film director.” Bangalter is no stranger to films, having created the score for the 2010 film Tron: Legacy with Daft Punk bandmate, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. Bangalter was the director, co-writer, and cinematographer of the 2006 film Electroma. He was also a co-producer on the 2017 Arcade Fire album Everything Now. He has shied away from DJing since developing tinnitus, an inner-ear condition, in 2002.

The visuals are not the only thing making a shift from classic to futuristic. The soundtrack is flourishing with electronic icons including Above & Beyond, Gary Numan, DJ Shadow, Boys Noize, Tricky and more. The original soundtrack, however, is not lost in the midst of the new age, electric vibe that is surrounding the album.

Steve Aoki‘s rework of Kenji Kawai’s legendary theme song “Utai IV Reawakening,” which is the center piece for the original version, successfully transformed the song into a synthy, eclectic beat, all while keeping the iconic pieces of the song in tact.

Aoki certainly didn’t hold back his enthusiasm about the opportunity to remake such a symbolic piece of music.

“This is a big day for me. Especially for teenage me when I first watched the anime Ghost In The Shell that planted the seeds for my imagination and obsession for Sci fi android life AI singularity and later the blueprints towards my Neon Future ideology.”

Ghost In The Shell hits theaters on March 31st.
