Genius Using ‘Genius’ Morse Codes

To prove that Google has been ripping content from their hard-earned work, Genius set up secret morse codes embedded into song lyrics. Genius has been around since 2009 as “a platform for annotating clever rap lyrics.” In 2016, Genius took notice of the striking similarities of Google’s lyrics compared to theirs. Genius devised a plan to include morse codes within alternating apostrophes of their song lyrics to spell out “red-handed.” According to WSJ, Genius said it found more than 100 examples of songs on Google that came from Genius’ site.

“Over the last two years, we’ve shown Google irrefutable evidence again and again that they are displaying lyrics copied from Genius,” said Ben Gross, Genius’s chief strategy officer, in an email message.

Google’s Response

Google denies all claims of stealing from Genius, of course. Google apparently forged a partnership with LyricFind, whom they state, secures deals with music publishers that allow Google to publish lyrics online. According to Google, they aim for better user experience by providing information boxes directly on their site versus redirecting them to sites like Genius.

“We take data quality and creator rights very seriously, and hold our licensing partners accountable to the terms of our agreement. We’re investigating this issue with our data partners and if we find that partners are not upholding good practices we’ll end our agreements.”

What Happens Next

This isn’t the first time that Google has disrupted other companies’ business models. For example, Google Maps directly competes with sites like Yelp to provide services directly on Google. In conclusion, there’s no clear answer as to how Genius will resolve this issue yet. Since Genius doesn’t actually own copyright per the song lyrics, legal experts state that any sort of legal battle will be long and cumbersome.

Labrinth, Sia, and Diplo Present… LSD

The side project journeyman is back at it! Everything Diplo seems to create turns right into gold.  His latest project teamed together Labrinth, Sia, and himself to create the genre-warping group LSD.

The unlikely trio first burst on the scene last May releasing successful singles ‘Genius‘, and ‘Audio‘ which set the stage for this unique experimental experience they want to take us on.

Out today (April 12th) self-titled album Labrinth, Sia & Diplo Present…LSD, this album is a drug in itself (no pills needed). LSD combines the beautiful voices of Sia and Labrinth over the incredibly unique melodies and beats that Diplo creates. The full album release, we see their very successful prior singles along with 3 brand new tracks ‘Angel in Your Eyes‘, ‘Heaven Can Wait‘, and ‘It’s Time‘ altogether as one.

LSD set out to show the mind is an amazing creature and anything is possible. If you can dream it, it can become a reality.  Let your mind free and check out Labrinth, Sia & Diplo Present…LSD below!

LSD – Audio

What is the world without music? If you imagine even for a minute how music impacts your life – how it inspires, motivates, evokes sadness and comfort at the same time, helps us groove and so much more – it’s hard to imagine a life without tunes. LSD’s new track ‘Audio‘ and the accompanying video are somewhat of a tribute to how fantastic, magical, beautiful and inspiring music is.

Labrinth, Sia, and Diplo make up the new supergroup LSD and dropped their first single ‘Genius‘ exactly one week ago today. In comparison to ‘Genius’ which is a truly psychedelic funky pop track, ‘Audio’ is a relaxed electronica tune. Diplo’s influence and production are definitely on the track but isn’t what you would usually expect from the dynamic deejay.

The ‘Audio’ music video features real-world Diplo putting an ‘LSD’ cassette into a car and driving off. He speeds past an animated floating balloon Sia as she accompanies a girl walking home from school. The rest of the music video includes Labrinth dancing through the streets, snippets of the animated world merging with reality, and a hypnotic dance routine.

Hopefully, next Thursday brings an all-new LSD track, because this one left us wanting more. Listen to ‘Audio’ below!

LSD – Genius

LSD is about to take over the globe. No no- not the drug, but a new super group of musical psychedelics. Consisting of UK songwriter Labrinth, global sensation Sia, and collab connoisseur Diplo, the unlikely trio has just released their first single ‘Genius’ along with a trippy music video. We’ve been guessing on whether or not this was just one single or the start of something special, and we got the confirmation today that we can expect a lot more from the group.

‘Genius’ begins with Labrinth’s vocals and string instruments leading into Sia’s famously beautiful voice and Diplo’s trademark production. Dubbing himself “trap colonel Sanders” Diplo writes on his Twitter that he was glad to be invited to write music with the two, and sums up ‘Genius’ in the best way possible:

“it sounds like you think, epic random amazing pop music from outer space.”

The video is a must watch, with kaleidoscopic animation and cartoon versions of Sia and Labrinth running from Diplo’s giant floating head.
