According to a statement on Meta’s official support page, users attempting to access the service via the dedicated URL will be automatically redirected to facebook.com/messages to continue their conversations within the core Facebook ecosystem.

The transition aims to streamline Meta’s web offerings, focusing development on a single browser-based interface rather than maintaining multiple standalone portals. While the dedicated website is being phased out, Meta emphasized that the Messenger mobile app for iOS and Android remains fully operational and is now the primary standalone access point.

For the subset of users who currently utilize Messenger without a full Facebook account, Meta clarified that their conversations will remain accessible through the mobile application, though browser-based messaging will now require a Facebook login. Despite rumors of a broader shutdown, the core service isn’t going anywhere; Meta is simply bringing the “fast and focused” messaging experience back home to the main Facebook site.

New Instagram Update

The translation feature allows communication all over the globe without the language hurdle. You can now hold a message down and click on ‘translate’, which will make the translated message appear below the original.

In addition, music sharing is now available for artists on the sticker menu. Sharing a track will be as easy as clicking on the music icon and choosing a song to send from the Instagram Library. The sent track will show as a spinning vinyl with a 30-second snippet the receiver will be able to hear.

Next, artists and creatives can now also schedule messages in DMs so they’re sent at the right time. You can now schedule reminders for merch drops or your next exclusive events so followers are the first ones to know. To schedule a message, hold down the send button. Then, you can choose the date and time the message will be sent, and lastly tap ‘Send’ to schedule it.

The new Instagram update also allows for group chats to have pinned messages at the top of them. Meaning, the information is easily available and not lost in long chats. To pin messages, hold down on the message and tapp ‘Pin.’ The message will be at the top of the DM screen each time it is opened. You can pin up to three messages at a time. If you need to unpin them, just tap the message select ‘Unpin.’

At last, Instagram is adding a personalized QR code for each group chat. Users can now show the personalized QR code, and whoever scans it instantly gains access to the chat. Group admins can change and reset the QR code, keeping control over who gets into the group chat.

Scammers also frequently target sold-out events, since they can inflate prices and the victims are more desperate to buy.

Tips to Avoid Ticket Scams

Scammers typically post fake tickets on social media in two waves: first, when tickets initially go on sale, and again closer to the event date. To protect yourself from ticket scams, remember these tips:

• Stick to Trusted Retailers: Purchase tickets directly from the venue or authorized sellers like Ticketmaster. Avoid third-party sellers.

• Beware of Deals That Seem Too Good to Be True: Discounted tickets on social media are often scams. Scammers can make significant profits from even a small number of victims. For example, if they sell to just 10 people looking for $40 tickets, they easily make $400.

• Use Secure Payment Methods: Never pay for tickets via bank transfer, wire transfer, or money order. Use credit or debit cards, as credit cards offer additional protection and lets you dispute the charge.

Selling tickets on Facebook Marketplace directly violates the platform commerce policy. Despite this, many scams still occur, defrauding fans of their money. Be wary of any seller who requests payment via bank transfer (usually through social media), as this is a common red flag for ticket scams.

The introduction of this subscription service is a response to concerns expressed by the European Union regarding Meta’s advertising targeting and data collection methods. By giving users the option to either pay for an ad-free experience or utilize the service for free while consenting to data collection practices, Meta believes it will better fulfil the stringent privacy requirements outlined in a variety of European data regulations, including the Digital Markets Act and GDPR.

Will I Have To Pay?

Meta has emphasized its commitment to providing free access to its products for individuals who opt not to subscribe. The company assures that the experience for non-subscribing users will remain unchanged. Also, they say the existing ad preference tools will continue to be accessible.

The ad-free subscription will exclusively cater to individuals aged 18 and above within the European Union, European Economic Area (EEA), and Switzerland. Initially, this subscription will cover all associated Facebook and Instagram accounts, but Meta intends to introduce an additional charge for linked accounts in the future. Starting from March 1st, 2024, there will be an extra fee of €6 on the web and €8 on iOS and Android for each linked account. Meta also affirms that as long as an individual maintains their subscription, their data will not be utilized for ad targeting.

Meta wrote in a post:

“We respect the spirit and purpose of these evolving European regulations, and are committed to complying with them.”

The language used in Meta’s subscription announcement clearly underscores the company’s continued emphasis on its ad-supported business model, which forms the foundation of its platforms. The service will be introduced exclusively in regions with robust safeguards for user data, and even within these areas, it will remain an elective choice.

Artificial Intelligence is more present and active than ever in the current world. That statement, naturally, applies to music too. It is a topic that causes division — some for, some against —, but leaves no one indiferent. Musicwise, we’ve seen artists like Grimes write an A.I.-powered album AI Lullaby, and ilan Bluestone use A.I.-generated vocals for his single ‘On Me’. We’ve also seen some instances go a bit too far. A recent example would be Boomy’s recent controversy about its music, automatically generated from user’s inputs of taste and genre.

Tomorrowland will bring its brand once again to Brasil later this year, as it should be of public knowledge by now. The festival is one of the most important around the world, with tens of thousands of people jumping and dancing during their yearly Belgium versions.

This October, and for the first time in seven years, Tomorrowland is arriving to the Southern Hemisphere, specifically to Sao Paulo, one of the core cities of Brasil. Ticket sales started on March 28th.

That’s right. Passes flew. With a couple of weeks for possible buyers to take a look at the packs and prices before that date, as soon as the site was enabled, many rushed to secure their access to the butterfly-logo gathering. And after only three hours, no tickets remained unclaimed. All tickets are sold and there will not be an extra sale or extra ticket wave. There is a waiting list, but that is for people that would like to resell their tickets, so the opportunity to get a ticket at this point is quite limited.

Since the announcement of Meta last October, they planned it as the bridge between virtual reality and the real world through video games and communications. Although Mark has optimistic goals about the launch of AR glasses, the truth is that development technology is still weak. The demo put in the last metaverse presentation is not yet based on any functioning hardware or software.

Former roadmap workers revealed some details to The Verge, that they shouldn’t mention openly. They are planning the glasses to be completely autonomous from mobile phones, although they need a “phone-shaped device” to control various aspects related to their control and power.

“Zuck’s ego is intertwined with [the glasses]. He wants it to be an iPhone moment.”

This first prototype is supposedly based on Android and could offer AR with 3D visuals, eye tracking, an outward-facing camera, stereo audio, a wide field of view, and a “socially acceptable” look. The most outstanding element of the glasses so far is the fact of being able to converse with the holograms of other people immersed in the metaverse, just as we saw in his presentation last fall.

They also plan to release a less exotic lens, Hypernova. These will synchronize with mobiles and will show the notifications of these through the screen of this device. It will available beginning in 2024.

Despite all these innovations, Meta will have to fight hard against Apple, who also has very ambitious goals in terms of AR. According to rumors, they plan to implement their own lens this fall.

They’ve reviewed thousands of content since the start of the war. What’s more, is they restricted the discoverability of RT and Sputnik content from EU and other markets. But their reality also includes “keeping their service operational in Russia to allow for the global flow of information”. The company will match employee donations to humanitarian efforts in the country two-to-one.

Live Nation also joins the world in strongly condemning the invasion by ceasing business with Russia including concert promotions.

“We will not promote shows in Russia, and we will not do business with Russia. We’re in the process of reviewing our vendors so we can cease work with any and all Russian-based suppliers.”

Even Apple stopped all product sales in Russia, expressing their deep concerns with the invasion and stand against those suffering as a result of the violence. The European Union ordered YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok to block Russian accounts. Google followed suit in its respective app store. The pressure applied to Russia’s economy is a notable move backed by the rest of the world. Spotify’s ban is a light touch approach to content moderation and one that many follow. Netflix has paused projects and acquisitions in Russia, along with any current film productions.
