Looking for banging festival music, anyone? Then this one might be for you. ‘Damage‘ is not only the name of the newest conjoint work between Psytrance maestros Vini Vici and legendary musician Gabry Ponte: it’s also what their latest track will do on the dancefloor. A single that promises to turn clubs and festivals on their heads with clever groove and catchy boominess, ‘Damage’ sees the light of day via Smash The House.

Having already worked together for ‘Lo Nevosh‘, the three guys are no strangers to joining forces. Fusing their styles and sounds in a unique manner, ‘Damage’ acts as a clear statement towards the undeniable musical prowess that each artist possesses, while also amplifying their versatile natures and the easiness of trying out new formulas and genres.

Needless to say, the acts colliding for ‘Damage’ are no short of gigantic, with a massive career already solidified. On one hand, the Israeli duo comprised of Matan Kadosh and Aviram Saharai, has brought infectious beats time and time again with songs like their remix of ‘Free Tibet‘, ‘Great Spirit‘ alongside Armin van Buuren, and recently, ‘The Race‘ together with Timmy Trumpet and Sub Zero Project. On the other hand, the Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum producer Gabry Ponte has been around for literal decades, with his largest recognition being when part of the iconic group Eiffel 65. As a solo act, Ponte has come together with artists of the calibre of Timmy Trumpet, R3HAB and Aloe Blacc, for a handful of tracks.

‘Damage’

Making clever use of the popular “back once again for the renegade master“ sample from the 1995 House track by Wildchild, ‘Renegade Master‘, Vini Vici’s and Gabry Ponte’s track rapidly evolves to take on a hard-hitting Techno vibe, one that teases a somewhat Reverse Bass feel. Adding subtle textures and machine-programmed hats, the drop abruptly cuts all percussion to leave you hanging just with the kick and bass.

Once the break arrives, the tension continues, as listeners dive into a breakbeat percussion atmosphere just before approaching the next drop. We surely do envision this track being accompanied by CO2 cannons and fire shows. It’s a song that shows off best at a crowded festival. Australian duo Slumberjack—real names Morgan Then and Fletcher Ehlers—released their brand-new EP ‘Sarawak’ this morning. Then is a classically trained pianist and former world-music artist. Fletcher, at age eleven, taught himself to make electronic music. Since 2014, they have steadily reinvented their sounds and pushed the boundaries of electronic music.

Finding Their Sound

With previous tracks like ‘Enigma’ and a banging remix of Alison Wonderland’s ‘Sometimes Love’, they’ve made a name for themselves in the EDM world. Sarawak captures the duo’s real identity. They’re proving that they are the real deal.

What’s different about this EP, compared to their self-titled EP released in 2014, is their use of ambient and foley sounds from their trip to Sarawak, Malaysia. On their website, they display various photos and videos behind the making of this EP in a series titled “Sights of Sarawak.” There are pictures of snakeheads and videos of Then and Fletcher drinking ‘tuak’, a local moonshine Sarawak. They explore the Fairy Cave, which sounds like something out of a fantasy novel – but look below and tell us that’s not beautiful.

“There’s something special about the way sound behaves in really large places and Sarawak’s Fairy Cave definitely fits that bill. We spent a lot of time here recording the impulse of the cave reverberations, which is kind of like the acoustic DNA of the space. The idea is that we can take that back to the studio and make it sound like any instrument was recorded in that space.”

The Music

In ‘Daggers’, one of the featured singles from their EP, you can hear the sample of an ancient musical instrument indigenous to tribes in Sarawak called a Sape. ‘Athena‘ is a track from the Slumberjack we know and love, although more refined because it ends on a calming piano loop. Other tracks feature artists such as Machine Age and Troyboi, as well as captivating vocals from Clarie Ridgely.

The final song ‘Closure’ – co-produced with Ekali – is one of our favorites. It showcases complex changes, like soft piano notes which effortlessly blend into bass drops. Sarawak grounds you in the present, makes you think more about your surroundings. It shows just how much Slumberjack have grown as artists.

Hardwell & Suyano feat. Richie Loop – Light It Up

When most people retire or take an extended break, they typically go off the grid. Hardwell, on the other hand, seems to be getting more productive. Following the announcement of his indefinite hiatus from touring, Robbert has come out blazing with his newest single ‘Light It Up.’

The track sees his first collaboration with fellow Dutchman Suyano. Spicing things up are the island-inspired vocals of Richie Loop. ‘Light It Up’ hits shelves through Hardwell’s very own Revealed Recordings. He took to social media to promote his latest banger:

The track is a big room-reggae fusion that delivers in a monster way. A kicky intro hits big with horns that get you amped from the get-go. As Richie Loop comes on the mic, you are hit in the face with some signature Hardwell flair. As the song breaks down, one might think “Is this the same song?” Indeed it is! A classic reggae vibe provides a deliciously fresh take on the definition of “anthem.” Loop kicks things back into a higher gear, and the driving kick drum brings you through the final drop – absolute fire. Hardwell and Suyano have a big one one their hands here.

Hardwell has promised to finish out his remaining tour dates before taking his leave of absence due to health concerns. He will be playing the Ziggo Dome on October 18, which will be his final show for the foreseeable future.

The track sees its release through Smash the House Records, the label of DV & LM.

Providing an enticing face lift to an already classic jam, the party starter ‘Here We Go’ holds true to familiar elements from all DJs involved. Playing off the iconic lyrics from the original, a thumping bass drum paces the massive track. As the build up peaks, the listener is hit with showcase elements of twangy festival horns and percussive kick drums. This heart-pumping anthem will be rocking main stages for months to come.

Following Swedish House Mafia’s return to the stage at Ultra’s 20th anniversary in Miami, Florida, the world can’t stop talking about Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello. 

After the release of his album ‘Human‘ in April 2018, Steve Angello has been nothing but incredible. The album, which was initially teased with the release of three separate EPs titled “Genesis“, “Inferno“, and “Paradiso“, is a concept album inspired by a trip to his hometown church in Stockholm. During this period he considered walking away from music due to his disappointment with the constant chase for attention in the social media world.

After his performance at Ultra Europe especially, I’m sure everyone is happy he chose to stay in the game. The solo artist has consistently brought something new to his shows around the globe. He certainly delivered at Ultra Europe, where he debuted a brand new ID.

Angello has been glistening his sets with new tunes lately, keeping audiences around the world on their toes for what’s to come next. However, one ID stood out more than any other. Before the massive new ID graced its way across the airwaves in Split, Croatia, Angello hopped on the mic giving the audience a fair warning to what was to come. Steve told fans:

“Croatia, this is a brand new song! I’ve never played this anywhere else. This is the first time…It’s all about love!”

Angello even gave fans a small glimpse of what is possibly to come, closing his set off by saying, “Swedish House Mafia loves you!” So touching. However, this leaves us with so many questions. Is the new ID the first Swedish House Mafia comeback track? Is Swedish House Mafia going on tour in 2019? Is he just being sentimental? Who knows. All we can do for now is listen to the new ID and hope for something big to come.

Max Vangeli and Drop Department have both been making serious strides in the EDM scene in their own rights. With a series of well-received originals, remixes, and collaborations, it is hard to deny that they each are incredibly talented artists. So when we heard they teamed up for a collaboration, titled ‘Ground Shake‘, we were more than excited to get a listen.

The track has all the pieces in place to be a high-energy behemoth. Perfectly crafted for peak-time club sets and crowd-filled festivals, the wall of sound starts from the first drop and doesn’t let up. The drums and bass act as the foundation, while synthesizer blips and hits spark up the syncopation in between every beat. It all comes together to create a fast-paced electro hit.

You would look at your friends, and smile wider than when you were eating a Kit Kat bar in your childhood as the track has some serious chart-topping potential if you didn’t know it’s real purpose.

The promo itself indicates that the tune is indeed created for Kit Kat as several candy wrappers and their distinct logo are clearly demonstrated. Now that we know that the ‘Deep Down Low‘ musician can transform a simple tune into an undeniable masterpiece, we look forward to seeing if he will collaborate with other companies in order to grace the world with other sweet tracks!

A favorite amongst trap fans, Rickyxsan just released his newest tune ‘Insane,’ and well, it lives up to its namesake.

Rickyxsan took the iconic line from Drake’s ‘Over’ and created a fresh banger around it. He isn’t the first producer to utilize this particular Drake line; graves and ASKA also released the popular track ‘Ther Are No Penguins in Alaska’ last year. While both tracks are high-energy, the producers put totally different spins on the sample.

The track begins innocently enough with a smooth panning intro, but quickly takes off after that. An intense, horn-heavy build-up featuring a maniacal laugh launches into a drop full of high-pitched shrill synths. Rickyxsan once again proves why he’s his tracks are staples in DJ sets.

With a heavy build-up and haunting vocal samples, Rickyxsan perfectly sets the mood for an intense drop, full of booming bass and high-pitched synth stabs. Pausing only for a second, the Los Angeles-based producer quickly brings back the heat with a chaotic and even filthier second drop. Producing a track perfect for festivals and concert halls, Rickyxsan is surely on his way to big things.

The up-and-coming producer unfortunately had a major setback a few months ago when he lost his hard drive containing all of his new material. However, he has now released three new tracks within the past month.

The release of ‘Insane’ just proves how Rickyxsan is committed to re-building and putting out new music once again. Best of luck to him as we’re all eagerly awaiting to hear what else he has in store!
