What’s most exciting about Alchemy is not just that they are releasing this album independently, but also the 11 track LP will not include any guest features or samples. We will see the Lawrence brothers take a “back to basics” approach. This will be their first album after their departure from Capitol Records. They will proceed to release through their AWAL imprint, Apollo Records.

This record is a celebration of us feeling liberated right now. We’re no longer signed to a major record label. We’re not going to tour this record. We can do whatever we like and be super creative.

Guy Lawrence

Both brothers are said to have been in two different states of mind whilst producing their upcoming album. On the happy spectrum we congratulate Guy on his wedding whilst he produced this album. Howard on the other hand did go through heartbreak and a long tour. We are excited to see how both these strong emotions shape this album.

There was this combination of deep heartbreak and sadness, but also deep admiration and appreciation. Let’s turn this horrible feeling into something beautiful. The whole idea was to channel pain into beauty – which, in hindsight, is always the aim.

Howard

All our other albums were written in third person. Before now, very few of our songs were about things that happened to us and our lives.

Guy

A bit of a sneak peak before the release but fans are in for a treat as Howard provides more of his own vocals and lyrics. We will experience vast differences from summery house to breakneck jungle. The artwork for Alchemy by the artist Llinos Owen will feature a picture of the brothers taken by George Muncey.

The Lawrence brothers to celebrate their 10th anniversary of Settle are releasing a special edition Vinyl. There is a sold out release party at The Cause in East London.

The 6th edition of Alchemy, which started back in 2017, features a bunch of new artists. It includes names such as DLMT, Marco Marz, FREAK ON, Krooner, and OMNOM. It is loaded with house tracks but also has some twisty bass and future house tracks in there. The Compilation showcases the best the underground scene has to offer.

The 10 Tracks

Right out of the gate ‘The Streets’ gets the party going. It features a thick and dark bassline that will get your feet moving. DLMT and Marco Marz do a great job replicating Tchami’s signature sound. Next up is my favorite out of the ten ‘Vibrate’ which hits the brain just right. Once the drop hits, you’ll know what I mean by that.

Third up is ‘Gone’ which hosts deep bass beats for the crowd to enjoy. FREAK ON hits us with the first house track in ‘Get Down.’ Which by the title, you will probably be shaking your body down low. ‘Everybody’s Sin” is next which features a bunch of funky beats. MNNR’s ‘Feed Them’ gives the people what they want. Everyone wants that bread and this track only motivates us more to get it.

‘Take Me’ by Cave Studio leaves us wanting more as we never know where the song will turn next. ‘Side Chick’ has some unique synths throughout. We don’t know what our main piece is offering but on the side looks pretty good. The final two tracks ‘Laffy Taffy’ and ‘Brkfst’ are house tracks to keep the crowd happy and dancing.

If you like what Tchami has produced in the past, this volume is perfect for you. All ten tracks are distinct from one another and will pull in any dance music fan. You gotta give this one a listen below!

Following the original release, Tchami enlisted Valentino Khan to remix his track ‘Rainforest‘ on the CONFESSION imprint. Rising into prominence, the label has become a hot-spot for some of the best house music. On it, you’ll find music by the likes of Jay Dunham, KOOS, Nostalgix, Nitti Gritti and many more. Moreover, their Alchemy compilation, including the fifth installation, has already become a fan-favorite.

Immediately, Valentino Khan introduces his remix with a booming club rhythm, while keeping the backbone of the original track. The re-worked, dance-ready track falls into filtered vocals and light percussive elements. From there, the track peaks as the stabbing synth leads the infectious house tempo surrounding the track. In comparison to the original, it takes a completely different direction. Tchami’s original take was oriented on a Summery feeling , while this remix takes you directly into the night.

The Alchemy Tour has officially announced its first show on the road since teasing it! Blending together some powerhouse names in electronic music, NGHTMRE, Slander, Seven Lions and The Glitch Mob will be sharing a stage. Bringing forth the first date on the tour, all artists will be performing in SOCAL. They announced the show at Marina Green in Long Beach, taking place on August 17. That will give you plenty of time to prepare!

Considering the caliber of each artist and the stage structures they put on, we can only wonder as to what stages we can expect. For example, in recent past The Glitch Mob finished touring with their Blade 2. Furthermore, Slander demonstrated The Eye stage on May 17 in Eugene, Oregon. At equal pacing, Seven Lions and NGHTMRE will be touring throughout the Summer maintaining a busy schedule. Considering the news of a tour, I can’t help but suspect a possible mega collaboration between the artists involved. That would certainly be interesting to hear if it happens.

Tickets for the Alchemy Tour’s first official date will go on sale Thursday, May 30 at 10AM PST. We can only wait to receive news on the upcoming tour dates. In the meantime, grab your tickets and make a plan, the show will surely be one to remember.

i_o – Death by Techno EP

Since 2017, i_o has hacked his way up the ladder of stardom as he continues touring across the world and releasing hit track after track. He has built up a passionate fan base as he continues to blow their minds with his unique, signature style. And now he’s sending his fans to the lower levels of the underworld with his latest EP. Out now on mau5trap is his two track Death by Techno EP.

At a shady underground rave in a discreet location, it is peak party time. ‘Death by Techno‘ starts to play and proceeds to send party-goers to the underworld dungeons of bass. Fueled by a thumping bassline and addicting warehouse sounds, this one delivers quite a punch.

Right after escaping the dungeon, i_o brings out the beats on a lighter note. ‘No Sleep‘ plays around in the melodic techno soundscape using stirring vocals to propel the track. You can expect this track to get bumped to after a long night of partying!

Tchami is one of the founders of the Pardon My French collective alongside DJ Snake, Mercer, and Malaa. With that in mind, he released a track with Ibranovski titled ‘Omega’ which saw its release on his CONFESSION label. The infectious bass-house track kicks off with a rhythmic intro, progressing into quiet stabs. As the intro subsides, the stabs get louder, and a whispering voice plays in the background adding atmospheric elements. Succeeding that, the track falls into the groovy and dancey chorus known from Tchami.

This comes after a group of releases from artists such as NuKid, Malaa, Jay Dunham, MASTERIA, and more. CONFESSION will be closing out Miami Music Week on March 31. That announcement was made shortly after the label put out ‘Alchemy IV‘, the fourth installation in their ongoing series. It showcases some of the up-and-coming talents on the label, along with some new names and faces.

If you haven’t gotten aboard the i_o train leading straight to the techno dungeon, you need to now. Mysteriously surfacing a couple years back, i_o has been nothing short of epic with his releases and live sets. Today, the Dark Lord hit us with a video of his rendition of the Above & Beyond classic ‘Alchemy.’

The i_o ‘Alchemy’ remix demonstrates the stunning form and power the young gun possesses. The mau5trap cornerstone continues to break down musical barriers, and tracks like this demonstrate his versatility. While he has techno roots, i_o dabbles in everything from trance to progressive to acid house to pop. His recent release with Tommy Trash ‘Let Me Go‘ is a quality crossover track with some punch.

i_o has a loyal following of fans on Facebook known as “i_o’s Techno Demons.” While keeping his underground mentality, he is quickly climbing the ladder into the spotlight. He will perform at Insomniac’s Beyond Wonderland on March 22, showing just how far he has come in a very short time.

The compilation kicks off with the groovy collaboration by Fulbset & PEACE MAKER!‘s ‘My Fault.’  Following the track, the ominous ‘D.E.A’ by Rollerz & Cave Studio takes over, and includes an unexpected hip-hop cross-over giving more life to the track.  As the track concludes, Asdek’s ‘Let Me Tell You’ starts to play with a calm groove and spacious atmosphere.  The track then catapults itself into an infectious house banger.  Furthermore, Gosha comes through with his second official release ‘La Mour,’ a heavy, deep, and dark track with a vicious bassline.  In Dustycloud‘s ‘Reckless,’ the punchy percussive elements shine through with the crunchy bass.  In addition, Rique follows through with maintaining the energy from ‘Reckless’ with his own ‘When I go.’  Finally, ToMix & JC Ordonez close out the compilation with their catchy collaboration, ‘My Garage.’

The album has two sides, each mixed individually by two very talented producers and DJs in their own right: label boss James Grant, and long time DJ and one half of the legendary duo, Way Out West,  Jody Wisternoff. The album includes tracks from amazing talents such as Matt Lange, Andrew Bayer, Dusky, Andre Sobota, and Croquet Club. To say that it is one of the most anticipated releases within EDMtunes would be an understatement.

The track itself envelopes the familiar and haunting lyrics of Zoë Johnston in the traditional simplicity and fluidity of deep house.  It is a sensational groove, made all the better by its source material. A staccato-ed synth and eerie echo pads are coupled with an ever present drum pattern, and they all come together to deliver a fantastically melodic deep house tune, that is a brilliant take on the original trance anthem.
