Is this real? Is Daniel about to turn his seasonal mixtapes into live premieres? The moment I saw “San Francisco, I’m making you a new mixtape September 20 at the Castro Theatre,” I got chills. Judging by the reaction online, I’m definitely not alone.
For over a decade, Lane 8 fans have welcomed every new season with a fresh mixtape. It’s become a tradition, a soundtrack to our lives, and something many of us look forward to every few months. If you’re new to the Lane 8 universe, do yourself a favor and spend some time with the mixtape series. You’ll quickly see why the idea of experiencing one live feels so special.
TNH 10
It’s been a huge year for Daniel. This Never Happened celebrated its 10-year anniversary with Summer Gathering in the UK before bringing the celebrations to North America. Alongside that, he introduced Cross Pollination 2, an evolution of the collaborative spirit behind the album of the same name. Just as the record brought together artists from across the melodic house and progressive spectrum, the live experience placed that collaboration front and center through a series of B2B sets. Fans first experienced the concept in true This Never Happened fashion in Colorado and most recently in San Diego, where the focus wasn’t on individual headliners but on artists creating something unique together in the moment.
The celebrations are far from over. Daniel will take the TNH 10 festivities to Amsterdam during ADE, giving European fans their chance to celebrate a decade of This Never Happened. Before then, Cross Pollination 2 heads to New York next month for what appears to be the final stop of the series. Between celebrating ten years of TNH, bringing fans together through the collaborative energy of Cross Pollination 2, and continuing to push the label forward, Daniel has spent the last year reminding us why this community remains one of the most special in dance music.
I Made You A Mixtape
I won’t lie, I was genuinely gutted that I couldn’t make it to the first I Made You A Mixtape show in Colorado back in June. From everything I’ve heard, it was one of those rare This Never Happened nights that people will be talking about for years. The kind of event that becomes part of label lore. No recordings, no endless social media clips, just a room full of people sharing a moment that existed only for those lucky enough to be there. That’s why seeing Daniel announce a second I Made You A Mixtape show hit me right in the feels. For those of us who missed Colorado, this feels like a second chance.
So thank you, Daniel, for giving us another opportunity to be part of it. Presale starts tomorrow, and if you’re even remotely considering going, sign up now. Some shows end when the lights come on. This feels like the kind of show you’ll still be talking about years from now.
