deadmau5, a pivotal influence for studio producers worldwide, is embarking on an exciting musical journey as he prepares for 2026. Following the ethereal instrumental track, ‘Ameonna,’ he has unveiled a new vocal single, ‘Science,’ featuring the exceptional talent Stevie Appleton. This dynamic track, which debuted on February 20 through his record label, mau5trap, showcases a fresh evolution in his artistry.
Stevie Appleton is a rising star in the music industry and a multifaceted singer, songwriter, and producer from London. He captivates listeners with his distinctive vocal tone and intricate melodic writing evident in ‘Science.’ His versatility as a collaborator injects vibrant energy and a compelling vocal identity into the composition. In fact, that versatility makes it a noteworthy addition to the deadmau5 catalog. ‘Science’ stands confidently alongside some of deadmau5’s most iconic vocal-driven tracks, including the emotionally charged ‘The Veldt,’ the powerful ‘Raise Your Weapon,’ and the atmospheric ‘Bridged By A Lightwave’. Furthermore, landmark collaborations like ‘I Remember’ and the chart-topping ‘Escape’ (as Kx5) with Kaskade also enhanced his legendary status.
deadmau5 explained how the track came to be
“Steve sent the vocal through, thought it was neat so I made a track with it.”
Stevie Appleton descrived the process behind the creation of ‘Science’
“I found there ended up being a nice simplicity in ‘Science.’ There was a lot more in the song before I cut it down to just four lines, each of which I feel like carry a certain feeling. Is it a dark energy, a loving one? It’s a bit of a mystery and I wanted to keep it that way. What deadmau5 has done with the production and the continuation of the songwriting is incredible. I’ve worked with a lot of big DJ/producers and gotten versions back of songs I’ve started on a piano, but this one was a different game. It should be a marker for the quality young producers are trying to achieve.
I’m excited for the world to hear what we’ve made, especially the full 9.30m length version, it takes you on a ride like a piece of cinema.”
