Swedish House Mafia legend Axwell recently turned to social media to speak on a topic beyond the usual music business: he condemned the ongoing political situation in Iran. Sharing a template story to his Instagram account, the iconic producer voiced a tough pill to swallow: 23,000 protesters reportedly killed by the Islamic Republic.
The post quickly spread throughout the EDM community, serving as a call to the international community’s perceived inaction, featuring the bold message: “Silence Is Complicity”.
Ax’s post comes at a particularly challenging time for the Middle-Eastern region. As of late January 2026, protests that began by the end of last year over economic troubles have evolved into a nationwide movement for regime change, met with strong response from state security forces. While official government figures remain significantly lower, leaked data and human rights monitoring groups have suggested that the death toll during the peak of the January unrest far exceeds previous instances.
