Dutch producer Mesto is out with a new single called ‘Freak,’ teaming up with songwriter and vocalist INK for a tech house cut that lands via John Summit’s Experts Only label. The track has been floating around John Summit’s sets for months, and now it finally gets an official release.
‘Freak’ has already picked up support from a fairly heavyweight list of DJs before its release, including Zedd, Alok, and Martin Garrix. That kind of early cosign from artists across different corners of dance music says something about the track’s crossover appeal — it’s built for the club, but there’s enough pop songwriting in the vocal to travel beyond it.
Sonically, ‘Freak’ leans into a dark, seductive mood, driven by a steady pulse and futuristic synth work that keeps building rather than releasing. Its one of those tracks that you play on the dancefloor and see how it builds into the groove. Mesto lets the groove develop gradually, layering the synths and vocal chops until the energy hits a point where it feels inescapable — a build style that fits well with where tech house has been trending on festival mainstages over the past couple of years.
Mesto has built a reputation as one of the more versatile producers to come out of the Netherlands’ deep pool of dance talent, moving between big room, future bass, and now tech house without losing his identity. INK, meanwhile, has carved out a niche as a genre-defying vocalist and writer, contributing to records that span pop and electronic production alike. Their pairing here plays to both of their strengths.
