Armin van Buuren is bringing back the classic sound of vinyl for his upcoming residency at UNVRS Ibiza. The trance legend has announced a special vinyl-only hour for every show.
The residency begins September 7 and runs through October 5. Each Monday, Armin will take over the club with a five-hour open-to-close set. However, one hour of every performance will focus entirely on vinyl.
A Vinyl Journey Every Week
Armin revealed the news through Instagram, teasing fans with a special vinyl set every five weeks. He later shared more details about how the idea will work during the residency.
The DJ is pressing custom vinyl records specifically for these performances. He will also bring some of his original records to the booth.
However, the sets will not simply recreate his old record collection. Armin plans to create his own edits for some of the tracks. Many classic trance records run for several minutes, which can make modern DJ techniques harder to use.
That means there will be no hot cues or digital shortcuts during the vinyl segment. Instead, Armin will work with the records and plan each track in advance.
Bringing Classic Trance Back to the Booth
The idea has a personal connection for Armin. He began DJing professionally in the late 1990s, when vinyl remained the standard format for electronic music.
Now, he wants to bring that experience back to the dancefloor. The vinyl segment will also change from week to week, giving each show its own track selection.
Fans can expect classic trance records from artists such as Chicane, Energy 52, Paul van Dyk, and The Thrillseekers. Armin has already tested the concept at UNVRS with a vinyl-only A State of Trance set earlier this summer.
For Armin, the appeal goes beyond nostalgia. Vinyl adds a different feeling to the DJ booth and changes how the set develops.
Celebrating 25 Years of A State of Trance
The residency arrives during a major year for Armin and his A State of Trance brand. The legendary radio show and event series continues its 25th anniversary celebrations throughout 2026.
With five-hour sets and a dedicated vinyl hour, the UNVRS residency gives Armin plenty of room to explore his history. At the same time, he can introduce fans to the sounds that continue to shape his sets today.
Each week will offer something different. Therefore, fans attending multiple shows can expect a new vinyl journey every time.
