Funk Tribu is out with a new EP called LIFE, a four-track project that doubles as a reflection on what happens when a career accelerates faster than the person behind it can keep up. The Bogotá-born, Berlin-based producer released the EP on all streaming platforms via his own label, TRIBE.
The project is built around a conceptual framework spanning soul (alma), mind (mente), body (cuerpo), and a bonus track called life (vida). Where his breakout hit ‘Phonky Tribu’ pushed past 100 million streams and turned him into a festival mainstay, LIFE arrives from a different place entirely — one shaped by exhaustion rather than momentum.
Funk Tribu’s rise over the past few years has been rapid. What started as a self-taught bedroom project turned into bookings at UNVRS, Fabric London, Tomorrowland, Awakenings, Sónar, EDC, Timewarp, and Lollapalooza. He also released his debut album, Against All Odds, which helped establish him as one of the names leading a newer wave of trance-influenced club music. That trajectory is part of what makes LIFE notable — it’s less a victory lap than a pause button.
Written during a stretch of relentless touring, the EP marks the point where Funk Tribu says the pace stopped feeling sustainable. Rather than framing that as a breakdown, he describes it as more of a recalibration — a recognition that growth has limits, even when everything looks fine from the outside. The project turns inward instead of outward, favoring intention over constant output.
LIFE will also see release as a limited-edition vinyl, marking Funk Tribu’s first time pressing music to wax.
Track by Track
‘Reborn (alma)‘ opens the EP in a more introspective, expansive register, built around a sizable emotional breakdown. ‘Where are you taking me? (mente)‘, a collaboration with Dillistone, is more immediate and vocal-forward from the jump, layered with tight, playful percussion. ‘This is the moment (cuerpo)‘ is sharper and more aggressive, driven by acid lines with vocals cutting through to balance out the edge. The bonus track, ‘Life (vida)‘, closes things out on a quieter, more reflective note, bringing the arc full circle.
Sonically, the EP stays within the euphoric, trance-leaning sound Funk Tribu has built his name on, with vocals running through each track. Alongside the music, the release is accompanied by a series of connected short films that don’t illustrate the songs directly so much as exist in the same emotional world — leaning into repetition, performance, and the quieter moments between shows rather than telling a linear story.
