A missing persons case has shaken the Shambhala Music Festival community as police continue searching for 28-year-old Kayla Boisvert of Ontario. Authorities say Boisvert disappeared during the early hours of Monday morning while attending the festival in Salmo, British Columbia.
The Salmo RCMP issued a public appeal for information on July 28. According to the police, Boisvert was last seen at the festival around 2:15 a.m. Monday. Friends began sharing posts about her disappearance on social media roughly a day earlier as they searched for answers.
According to her friend Ming Liu, Boisvert spent part of the night with their group. They attended Kai Wachi‘s set at the Pagoda Stage around 12:15 a.m. The group later moved to the Village Stage for Ganja White Night’s performance around 1 a.m. Liu did not say exactly when Boisvert became separated from the group. He said the last text message he received from her arrived at 3 a.m.
As news of her disappearance spread, social media users shared photos, information, and possible sightings. Several people reported encounters with Boisvert around the time she disappeared. Despite those efforts, she had not been located when police issued their appeal. Police describe Boisvert as six feet tall with brown eyes and black hair styled in long blonde braids. Boisvert wore a blue head scarf, an oversized graphic T-shirt, and multi-coloured scarves when she disappeared.. Liu also stated that Boisvert is of Jamaican descent and weighs between 160 and 170 pounds.
Shambhala Music Festival organizers said they are working closely with the RCMP and other public safety agencies. They added that they continue to provide assistance to support the ongoing search efforts.
Stories like this remind us how quickly festival weekends can change. Our thoughts are with Boisvert’s family, friends, and everyone waiting for news. Anyone who may have information about her whereabouts is asked to contact the Salmo RCMP at 250-357-2212. Even the smallest detail could help bring her home safely.
