Tomorrowland’s opening celebration delivered one of its biggest surprises on Thursday night as Dimitri Vegas and Marlon Hoffstadt stepped behind the decks together for their first ever B2B2 set at The Gathering.
Held exclusively for DreamVille campers, The Gathering officially kicks off each Tomorrowland weekend before the festival gates open. While the event always promises a few surprise appearances, this year’s lineup gave fans something they had never seen before.
A Surprise Closing Set
Earlier in the day, Hoffstadt hinted that something special was on the way. In an Instagram Story, he teased the performance by writing, “Guess who gathered up at Tomorrowland for a little surprise… First ever b2b with my brother @dimitrivegas.”
The pair closed out the night with an energetic hour-long performance that blended their individual styles while keeping the DreamVille crowd moving from start to finish. One of the highlights came when they dropped ‘Makina Time,’ the collaboration between Hoffstadt, DJ Konik, and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike that arrived earlier this year.
The Gathering Sets the Tone
The surprises didn’t stop there. Afrojack and Netsky also made unannounced appearances during The Gathering, continuing Tomorrowland’s tradition of saving some of its biggest moments for DreamVille campers.
Unlike the festival’s main stages, Tomorrowland keeps The Gathering’s surprise guests under wraps until they walk on stage. As a result, the opening party has become one of the most anticipated parts of the weekend for campers arriving a day early.
Fans who couldn’t make it to Belgium were still able to tune in, as Tomorrowland streamed the entire evening live through One World Radio. With the first festival day now underway, The Gathering has once again set the tone for another unforgettable Tomorrowland weekend.
