AlphaTheta has introduced the CDJ-1500X, a new compact professional media player that brings many of the flagship CDJ-3000X’s features into a smaller, more affordable package.

Designed for bars, smaller clubs, mobile DJs, and venues with limited booth space, the CDJ-1500X aims to deliver the flexibility of a traditional CDJ setup without requiring the footprint of its larger sibling. Priced at $1,699 USD before tax, the player is scheduled to begin shipping in mid-July.

While the CDJ-3000X remains the company’s flagship media player, the CDJ-1500X introduces several modern workflow improvements—including built-in Wi-Fi, cloud connectivity, streaming support, and a brand-new audience interaction feature called CoBeat.

A Smaller CDJ Without Sacrificing Professional Features

One of the biggest selling points of the CDJ-1500X is its compact footprint.

The player measures just 252.1 mm wide, making it considerably easier to fit into smaller DJ booths or pair alongside turntables and rotary mixers. Rather than replacing all-in-one controllers, AlphaTheta is clearly targeting DJs and venues that still prefer modular setups while needing equipment that works in tighter spaces.

Despite its smaller size, the CDJ-1500X inherits many of the same technologies found in the flagship CDJ-3000X.

Among the highlights are:

  • 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen
  • Playlist editing directly on the player
  • 8 Hot Cue buttons
  • Beat Sync and Beat Jump
  • Beat Loop knob
  • Mid-size jog wheel with rotation indicator
  • Light and dark display modes

The larger touchscreen also allows DJs to browse up to 15 tracks simultaneously while displaying enhanced waveform information, including vocal positions, phrase structures, and BPM changes to help make mixing decisions faster.

Leave The USB At Home

Perhaps the biggest evolution comes through cloud connectivity.

Thanks to built-in Wi-Fi, DJs can access their rekordbox CloudDirectPlay library directly from the player without relying exclusively on USB drives. The CDJ-1500X also supports StreamingDirectPlay, allowing users to perform using music from Apple Music, Beatport Streaming, and TIDAL (subscription required).

AlphaTheta has also added NFC login, enabling DJs to tap their smartphone against the player and instantly load their playlists, settings, and music library through rekordbox for iOS or Android.

For DJs who regularly play different venues, the feature could significantly reduce setup time while ensuring their preferred settings travel with them.

CoBeat Introduces Live Song Requests

The CDJ-1500X also debuts compatibility with CoBeat, a new AlphaTheta service launching July 9 that aims to create more interaction between DJs and their audience.

Using a QR code generated by the DJ or venue, attendees can browse a pre-selected catalog of songs, vote on tracks they’d like to hear, or submit song requests directly to the DJ.

Requests appear on the CDJ’s touchscreen during a performance, while audience reactions—including emoji responses—can be viewed on the DJ’s smartphone in real time.

Importantly, the feature remains completely optional, allowing DJs to enable or disable CoBeat whenever they choose.

Built For Modern Venues

AlphaTheta has also focused on improving day-to-day usability.

The front panel includes illuminated USB ports—one USB-C and one USB-A—positioned to help protect drives from being accidentally bumped during performances. DJs can also customize the player with twelve different LED lighting colors and optional side panels designed to match different booth aesthetics.

The CDJ-1500X is compatible with rekordbox, Serato DJ Pro, and Algoriddim’s djay Pro, making it one of AlphaTheta’s most versatile standalone media players to date.

A New Option Between Controllers And Flagship CDJs

With many professional DJs still favoring separate media players over all-in-one systems, the CDJ-1500X fills an interesting gap in AlphaTheta’s lineup.

Rather than competing directly with the flagship CDJ-3000X, it offers a more compact alternative that retains many of the same professional workflows while introducing cloud-based features designed for today’s increasingly connected DJs.

As more venues modernize their booths and DJs continue embracing streaming and cloud libraries, the CDJ-1500X could become an attractive option for those looking for flagship functionality without flagship-sized hardware.
