Markus Schulz has dropped a new single, and this time it’s not landing on the usual imprint. The trance veteran has taken his latest track, Rave Generator, to HILOMATIK, the label run by Dutch house titan Oliver Heldens, and the pairing makes a lot more sense than it might look on paper.
Schulz has been open about the fact that Rave Generator has been a fixture in his sets for months, road tested in clubs and refined through repeated dancefloor readings before he ever committed it to a release. That kind of patience tends to show in the final product, and it does here. The track is stripped back, groove-driven, and built around tension rather than payoff, sitting comfortably in the darker, more hypnotic corner of his sound rather than the anthemic trance he is most associated with.
The decision to bring it to HILOMATIK was deliberate. In Schulz’s own words, he wanted the record to live in a different space, and Oliver Heldens’ label gave it exactly that. HILOMATIK has carved out a reputation for deeper, more club-focused electronic music, and Rave Generator fits the catalog naturally. It is the kind of track built for late night stretches where the energy locks in and stops moving, the sort of groove that works best when a room has been properly warmed up and the crowd stops thinking and starts feeling.
For Schulz, it signals something worth paying attention to. He has always been a more versatile artist than his trance association suggests, and a release like this on a label like HILOMATIK puts that range front and center. For Heldens and the imprint, landing a name of Schulz’s caliber adds another dimension to what the label represents in the broader electronic music landscape.
